What to Do

At the Westwood Family Aquatic Center, every guest will find something to enjoy. Lap swimmers will appreciate the 50-meter six-lane pool, while thrill-seekers can test their mettle on the 1-meter and 3-meter diving boards or speed down the tall water slides.

A particular favorite is the lazy river, which is about 150 meters long. It is equipped with waterfalls and current zones, allowing for both a relaxed float and a more intensive workout against the flow. For the youngest visitors, there is an interactive splash pad with a giant tipping bucket and a zero-depth entry pool with mini-slides and fountains.

Between swims, you can relax in specially equipped picnic areas under pavilions or grab a bite at the local cafe. The complex is fully ADA accessible, making it a truly inclusive place for recreation. Additionally, the facility often hosts practices and competitions for local sports teams, which can be fun to watch from the bleachers.

History & Facts

The modern look of the Westwood Family Aquatic Center is the result of a major city initiative called Norman Forward. The project was launched after a thorough study of residents' needs and an analysis of the city's parks master plan. Leading architectural and design firms, such as Water’s Edge Aquatic Design, worked on the creation of the complex.

The center's grand opening took place on May 29, 2018. It replaced the old Westwood municipal pool, which had occupied the same 5-acre site. The old facility was completely demolished to make way for a high-tech aquatic space capable of serving the city's growing population and the many students of the University of Oklahoma.

Interestingly, the tradition of water recreation at this location dates back decades — old postcards even feature the predecessor of the current center, the Westwood Park Swimming Complex. Today's facility is designed with durability and functionality in mind to serve many generations of residents and visitors to the region.

Time Needed

To fully enjoy everything the Westwood Family Aquatic Center has to offer, most visitors need between 3 to 5 hours. This is enough time to try out all the slides, float down the lazy river several times, and relax on a lounge chair.

Families with children often prefer to spend the entire day here. The presence of picnic areas and a snack bar allows for a lunch break without leaving the park, making the experience as comfortable and relaxed as possible.

Working Hours

The aquatic center is only open during the summer season. During the rest of the year, the complex is closed as the equipment is prepared for the next influx of guests. Usually, the season opens in late May and lasts until the end of the hot period.

The standard operating hours are as follows: from Monday to Saturday, guests are welcome from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and on Sunday, hours are slightly shorter — from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM. It is recommended to check the opening status on the official website before your trip, especially at the beginning or end of the season.
