The airline's fleet is impressive in its diversity and modernity. The carrier operates both narrow-body aircraft for short routes and long-haul "Dreamliners," the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. This allows for comfortable flights to neighboring countries as well as on transcontinental routes.

The strategic location of the hub allows the airline to effectively connect East and West. Passengers value AZAL for its punctuality and convenient connections, which turn a long journey into a pleasant trip. The continuous development of the route network makes the company attractive to both business travelers and tourists.

Although the carrier is not a member of global aviation alliances, it actively cooperates with the world's leading airlines through code-sharing agreements. This expands opportunities for passengers, allowing them to reach the most remote corners of the planet with a single ticket and a high standard of service.

Baggage

Baggage allowance at AZAL depends on the selected fare and flight destination. For carry-on baggage in economy class, passengers are usually allowed to take one bag weighing up to 8 kg with dimensions not exceeding 55x40x20 cm. Business class passengers may be provided with more flexible conditions, including a second piece of carry-on baggage.

Regarding checked baggage, the standard allowance for most international flights is one piece weighing up to 23 kg in economy class and up to 32 kg in business class. On promo fares, baggage may not be included in the ticket price, so it is important to check the conditions when booking. Additional fees are charged for exceeding weight or size limits according to current tariffs.

For the transportation of special baggage, such as sports equipment or musical instruments, prior coordination is required. Strollers and car seats are usually carried free of charge in addition to the standard allowance. For safety reasons, it is prohibited to carry flammable, toxic, and explosive substances. We recommend packing valuables and electronics exclusively in carry-on baggage.

Destinations

AZAL offers travelers a wide network of routes covering Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. The primary operating center and the pride of the carrier is its modern hub in Baku, which serves as an ideal point for connections between different parts of the world.

Flights to major metropolises and popular tourist centers hold a significant place in the airline's schedule. Passengers can comfortably reach Moscow, Istanbul, or Saint Petersburg. The carrier is also actively developing eastern directions, offering flights to cities such as Jeddah and Tbilisi.

For fans of beach holidays and business trips, there are regular flights to Antalya, Milan, and Mugla. A flexible schedule and high flight frequency on key routes make it easy to plan both short weekends and long vacations.

Booking Tips

To book AZAL tickets at the best prices, it is recommended to plan your trip in advance, especially for the summer season and holiday dates. The lowest fares are usually available when purchasing 2–3 months before departure. The official website azal.az and the airline's mobile app are the best tools for finding promotions and managing bookings.

Online check-in opens 24 hours before the flight, saving time at the airport and allowing you to choose a comfortable seat in advance. For those who prefer extra comfort, paid options for selecting seats with increased legroom (for example, at emergency exits) are available. On minimum fares, seat selection may be paid, so keep this in mind when booking your ticket.

Don't forget to check the conditions of your selected fare regarding refunds and exchanges: promo tickets are often non-refundable. It is also recommended to take out travel insurance to cover unforeseen expenses in case of trip cancellation or baggage delay. Using the AZAL mobile app will allow you to promptly receive notifications about schedule changes and exclusive offers.

History

The history of AZAL is inextricably linked with Azerbaijan's gain of independence. The official founding date of the company is 1992, when the national carrier was formed on the basis of the state civil aviation administration. From that moment, a new stage in the history of the country's civil aviation began, oriented toward international safety and quality standards.

In the early years of its existence, the airline worked actively on infrastructure modernization and personnel training. Based in the city of Baku, AZAL began to expand the geography of its flights, opening its first regular routes to neighboring and distant foreign countries. This allowed the republic to establish important transport links with world capitals and strengthen its international status.

A landmark stage was the gradual phase-out of outdated Soviet aircraft in favor of modern Western-made liners. The introduction of Airbus and Boeing family aircraft significantly increased passenger comfort and the economic efficiency of flights. Today, the company's fleet is one of the youngest and most technically advanced in the region, including innovative Dreamliners.

Over decades of operation, AZAL has strengthened its status as a reliable partner in the international aviation community. Joining IATA confirmed the carrier's compliance with strict global requirements. The company constantly introduces innovations, improving online services, booking systems, and the quality of ground service at its base airports.

The modern development strategy of the airline is aimed at turning the capital of Azerbaijan into the largest transport hub in Eurasia. Investments in new aircraft types and the expansion of the Heydar Aliyev Airport terminals testify to the carrier's ambitious plans. AZAL continues to be a symbol of its country's hospitality and progress on the world stage.
