Azimut flights and airline information

About

Azimuth (A4) is a fast-growing Russian airline that, since its founding in 2017, has become a key link for the southern regions of Russia. The airline is based in several strategically important airports, but its main technological and route hub is located in Mineralnye Vody. Operating as a low-cost carrier, the airline offers affordable flights, ensuring high transport accessibility between the cities of the Volga region, Central Russia, and the South.

The backbone of the Azimuth fleet consists of modern domestic Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ100) aircraft, allowing the company to efficiently perform regional and interregional flights. Although the airline is not part of global alliances like SkyTeam or Star Alliance, it successfully develops its own route network and high standards of service focused on passenger comfort during short and medium-haul flights.

Baggage

Baggage rules for Azimuth airlines depend on your chosen fare, so it is extremely important to study the conditions of your specific ticket when booking. Standard carry-on dimensions allowed in the cabin are usually limited to 55×40×20 cm. The weight and number of carry-on pieces are determined by the fare rules, but most often, passengers are allowed one piece weighing up to 5 or 10 kg.

For checked baggage placed in the cargo hold, the dimension limit is no more than 203 cm in the sum of three dimensions. Free baggage allowances (for example, 23 kg for standard fares) may change depending on the destination and class of service. If baggage is not included in your fare, you can pay for it additionally on the website or at the airport, although online purchases are usually cheaper.

Special surcharges apply for excess or oversized baggage. Fees for overweight luggage are calculated based on the airline's current rules at the time of check-in. For the transportation of sports equipment (skis, snowboards, bicycles) or musical instruments, prior coordination with the airline is required no later than 48 hours before departure.

Dangerous substances are strictly prohibited in checked baggage: flammable liquids, gases, explosive, and corrosive materials. The amount of liquids allowed in carry-on baggage is limited (bottles up to 100 ml in a transparent bag). It is recommended to pack fragile items in hard cases in advance and remove old tags from previous flights from bags to avoid sorting errors at the airport.

Pet Rules

In-Cabin Transportation

  • The maximum weight of the animal together with the carrier usually should not exceed 8 kg.
  • The dimensions of the soft or hard carrier bag must allow it to be placed under the seat in front of you.
  • Cats, dogs, and domestic tamed birds are allowed for transportation in the cabin.

Transportation in the Cargo Hold

  • Animals whose weight exceeds the limits for the cabin are transported in the cargo hold in special certified containers.
  • The container must be impact-resistant, have a secure lock, and ensure air access.
  • The size of the crate must allow the pet to stand at full height and turn 360 degrees.

Required Documents

  • A veterinary passport with records of current vaccinations (rabies vaccination is mandatory).
  • A veterinary certificate or a document of the established form.
  • When flying abroad, additional documents may be required according to the legislation of the destination country.

Cost and Preparation

  • Animal transportation service is always paid and is not included in the free baggage allowance. Fares depend on the pet's weight and the flight destination.
  • It is recommended not to feed the animal 4–6 hours before the flight but to provide access to water.
  • The airline may restrict the transportation of brachycephalic breeds (dogs and cats with flat faces) due to risks to their health during the flight.

Please note that the number of spots for animals on each flight is limited. Be sure to contact the Azimuth contact center at +7 (863) 226-00-05 immediately after purchasing your ticket to reserve a spot for your pet.

Loyalty Program

Azimuth Loyalty Program

As of today, Azimuth airlines does not have a classic public loyalty program with the accumulation of miles or bonus points common for large network carriers. The company's main focus is on maintaining the most affordable ticket prices as part of its low-cost model.

Opportunities and Promotions

  • Special Fares: The airline regularly offers promotional tickets at minimum prices for regional destinations.
  • Corporate Programs: For legal entities, special conditions for cooperation and booking management may be provided.
  • Promo Codes: As part of marketing campaigns, the airline sometimes distributes discount promo codes through its social media and newsletters.

Since Azimuth is not a member of global aviation alliances, the ability to collect or spend partner miles on its flights is also unavailable. Passengers are encouraged to follow updates on the official website azimuth.ru, where information on new services and special offers for frequent travelers is published.

Services

Azimuth airlines operates as a regional budget carrier, providing passengers with quality service within economy class. The cabins of SSJ100 aircraft feature a comfortable seat layout with sufficient pitch between rows for convenient seating. Passengers can choose fares with different sets of included services, allowing for flexible management of the flight cost.

Onboard meals depend on the flight duration and the chosen fare. In most cases, soft drinks are offered on short flights, while hot meals or snacks may be available by pre-order or for an additional fee. It is recommended to check the detailed menu and the possibility of ordering special meals (e.g., vegetarian) during the booking stage or through the personal account on the website.

For the comfort of travelers with children, services for unaccompanied minors and the possibility of transporting baby cradles or strollers are provided. Passengers with disabilities can count on the necessary assistance during boarding and disembarking if a request was submitted in advance. At present, Azimuth aircraft do not standardly offer in-flight entertainment (IFE) or Wi-Fi, which is typical for short and medium-haul regional flights.

Destinations

The flight geography of Azimuth (A4) airlines covers dozens of cities, making travel across Russia accessible and convenient. The carrier's main focus is on developing direct flights between regions, bypassing major capital transfer hubs, which significantly saves passengers' time.

The key connecting center of the route network is the hub in Mineralnye Vody, from where regular flights are operated to both domestic and popular international destinations. Among the popular routes are flights to major cultural and business centers such as Moscow, Istanbul, and Yerevan.

Booking Tips

To purchase Azimuth tickets at the best prices, it is recommended to plan your trip in advance—optimally 1.5–2 months before departure. The airline often holds sales in the middle of the week, so searching for tickets on Tuesday or Wednesday can help find more affordable options compared to weekends.

Online check-in for flights usually opens 24 hours before departure. It is recommended to complete it in advance through the official website or mobile application: this will not only save you time at the airport but also give you the opportunity to choose the most comfortable seats in the cabin. Please note that choosing certain categories of seats (for example, with extra legroom) may be paid depending on your fare.

When booking, carefully check the terms for refunds and exchanges. Budget fares are often non-refundable, so when planning a trip, it is worth considering the purchase of insurance covering the risks of flight cancellation. Using the Azimuth mobile app allows you to promptly receive notifications about changes in flight status and store all boarding passes in one place.

History

The history of Azimuth airlines began in 2017, when it was created with an ambitious goal—to provide high-quality air service between the cities of Southern Russia. Based in Rostov-on-Don, the carrier almost immediately filled the empty niche of regional low-cost travel, offering passengers an alternative to complex routes with transfers through the capital.

One of the key development stages was the formation of a fleet consisting exclusively of Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft. This decision allowed the company to become one of the largest operators of this type of vessel and prove their efficiency on regional routes. With the opening of new base airports in Krasnodar and Mineralnye Vody, the flight geography began to expand rapidly.

An important milestone was the launch of international destinations: the airline began operating regular flights to CIS countries, Turkey, the UAE, and Israel. This turned Azimuth from a local carrier into a significant player in the international market while maintaining its unique specialization in southern routes.

Today, Azimuth continues to implement innovations in the booking and service system, developing its mobile application and expanding the list of additional services on board. Remaining a socially significant carrier, the company actively participates in subsidized travel programs, making the sky closer for residents of various corners of Russia.
