Baggage

Baggage allowance at Bamboo Airways depends on the selected fare and class of service. For carry-on baggage, Economy Class passengers can transport one item weighing up to 7 kg for free, with dimensions not exceeding 56 × 36 × 23 cm. Business Class usually allows two pieces of carry-on baggage with a total weight of up to 14 kg.

Standard rules apply for checked baggage: on most scheduled flights in Economy Class, the allowance is between 20 and 30 kg, while in Business Class, it is up to 40 kg. It is important to remember that for the most budget-friendly fares (Economy Saver), checked baggage may not be included in the ticket price and must be paid for separately. Each piece of baggage should not exceed 203 cm in total linear dimensions.

If your baggage exceeds the established limits, an additional fee is charged for each extra kilogram. It is recommended to pay for excess baggage in advance on the airline's website—this is significantly cheaper than at the airport check-in desk. Sports equipment, such as golf bags or surfboards, is transported at special rates and requires prior coordination.

For flight safety, flammable substances, gases, corrosive materials, and other dangerous items are prohibited in both checked and carry-on baggage. Strollers and wheelchairs are carried free of charge in addition to the established allowance. We recommend labeling your suitcases with contact information for easier identification.

Pet Rules

Transportation of animals in the cabin and baggage compartment

Bamboo Airways allows traveling with your pets; however, this requires pre-booking the service no later than 24 hours before departure.

  • In the cabin: Small dogs, cats, and birds are permitted. The maximum weight of the animal together with the carrier usually should not exceed 7-10 kg. The dimensions of the container must allow it to fit comfortably under the seat in front of you.
  • In the baggage compartment: Animals weighing more than 10 kg are transported in a specially equipped, heated compartment. The container must comply with IATA standards, be durable, clean, and provide sufficient ventilation.

Required documents and requirements

To fly, the owner must provide an international veterinary passport, proof of microchipping, and certificates of all necessary vaccinations (including rabies) administered within the required timeframes. For international flights, import/export permits and veterinary certificates for the specific destination country may also be required.

Restrictions and costs

  • Transportation is paid for as excess baggage at special fixed rates.
  • There are restrictions on transporting brachycephalic breeds (animals with flat faces, such as pugs, bulldogs, or Persian cats) due to the risk of respiratory problems during the flight.
  • During periods of extremely high or low temperatures, the transportation of animals in the baggage compartment may be temporarily restricted.

Before planning your trip, be sure to contact the airline's customer service to confirm current flight quotas, as the number of animals in the cabin is limited. It is recommended to arrive at check-in early to complete all necessary formalities.

Loyalty Program

Bamboo Club Loyalty Program

For frequent flyers, the airline has developed the Bamboo Club loyalty program, which allows members to accumulate bonus points and exchange them for privileges. Participation in the program is free, and registration is available online via the official website or through the mobile app.

Membership Tiers and Privileges

  • Emerald: The entry level, available immediately after registration. It allows you to collect points for flights.
  • Gold: Offers priority check-in, seat selection in the cabin, and extra baggage allowance.
  • Diamond: Includes access to business lounges, priority boarding, and an increased point earning rate.
  • First: The highest status, providing maximum priority at all stages of service, the right to free upgrades, and exclusive offers from partners.

How to earn and spend points

Points are awarded for every flight segment on Bamboo Airways, as well as for using the services of partners: hotels, car rental services, and bank cards. Accumulated points can be spent on purchasing award tickets, upgrading the class of service from Economy to Business, paying for excess baggage, or accessing lounge areas.

The program also provides the option for family point pooling, allowing families to reach elite status faster. Gold level members and above can enjoy privileges not only in Vietnam but also with partner services worldwide. The current list of partners and point earning rules are regularly updated in the member's personal account.

Services

Bamboo Airways offers passengers two main classes of service: Economy and Business. In Economy Class, passengers can expect ergonomic seats with adjustable headrests and sufficient legroom. In Business Class on long-haul flights, lie-flat seats are installed that recline 180 degrees, ensuring full rest during the flight.

Onboard meals are included in most fares. The menu is regularly updated and combines classic Vietnamese dishes with international cuisine. Business Class passengers are provided with an expanded menu and a wine list. The airline also offers the option to pre-order special meals: vegetarian, halal, kosher, or children's meals, which must be booked at least 24 hours before departure.

The Bamboo Sky entertainment system is available on personal screens in wide-body aircraft or via Wi-Fi on personal devices in narrow-body aircraft. Passengers are offered a wide selection of movies, music, and games. On some international routes, onboard Wi-Fi is provided for messaging and web browsing.

Special attention is paid to families with children: bassinets for infants (upon prior request), children's creative kits, and special entertainment programs are provided on board. For passengers with limited mobility, Bamboo Airways ensures escort and assistance at all stages of the journey, including providing wheelchairs and priority service.

Destinations

Bamboo Airways has a developed route network connecting Vietnam's largest metropolises with popular resort areas and international destinations. The carrier's main operational hub is the international airport of Hanoi, from where the majority of regular flights are operated.

The domestic flight map covers key centers such as Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, and Nha Trang. The airline also offers convenient flights to mountainous Da Lat, seaside Quy Nhon, and international destinations, including flights to Lijiang, China.

Booking Tips

To book Bamboo Airways tickets at the best price, it is recommended to plan your trip in advance. The best time to buy is 2-3 months before departure. The airline often holds mid-week sales, especially on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, when you can find special offers on domestic flights within Vietnam.

Be sure to use online check-in, which opens 24 hours and closes 60 minutes before departure. This will allow you to choose a comfortable seat in the cabin in advance and avoid queues at the airport. If you are traveling only with carry-on baggage, you can proceed directly to security with your boarding pass. Please note that choosing seats with extra legroom is usually a paid service if it is not included in your fare.

The airline's mobile app is a useful tool for travelers. In it, you can not only buy tickets but also track flight status in real-time and receive notifications about promotions available only to app users. For those who value flexibility, we recommend choosing Flex group fares, which allow changes to the booking with minimal fees.

Don't forget to check the refund and exchange conditions before paying. The cheapest fares are often non-refundable. If you are planning a complex route across several cities in Vietnam, it is more profitable to book all flights on one ticket—this can reduce the total cost and provide protection for connections.

History

The history of Bamboo Airways began in 2017 when the Vietnamese conglomerate FLC Group announced the creation of a new airline. The carrier was officially registered in 2018, becoming Vietnam's first private airline focused on a hybrid service model, combining features of a low-cost carrier and a full-service airline. The company made its first commercial flight in January 2019 on the Hanoi – Ho Chi Minh City route.

From the very beginning, the founders set an ambitious goal—to turn the airline into a symbol of Vietnamese hospitality and quality. In its first year of operation, the company's fleet began to actively expand with Airbus A320 family aircraft and the newest Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners. This allowed the airline to quickly move beyond the domestic market and start operating flights to Japan, South Korea, and other Asian countries.

A major milestone in its development was obtaining the Air Operator Certificate (AOC), confirming compliance with the strictest international safety standards. In 2020 and 2021, despite global challenges for the aviation industry, the company continued to expand its route network, focusing on connecting regional resorts with major cities, which gave a powerful boost to the development of domestic tourism in Vietnam.

Today, Bamboo Airways continues its expansion by implementing modern digital technologies to improve the passenger experience and working towards joining international aviation alliances. The company's history is an example of rapid growth and a commitment to innovation, making it one of the most recognizable brands in the skies over Southeast Asia.
