Caribbean Airlines flights and airline information

About

Caribbean Airlines is not just an airline but a major air bridge connecting the Caribbean islands with the rest of the world. As the national carrier of Trinidad and Tobago and the flagship airline of Guyana, it provides reliable connections between the region and the largest metropolises of North and South America. The carrier's primary base is Piarco International Airport in Port of Spain.

Since its founding in 2006, the company has established itself as a classic network carrier focused on a high level of service and the hospitality characteristic of the islanders. Although Caribbean Airlines is not part of global aviation alliances, its route network and service quality make it a leader in its region.

A key advantage of the airline is its deep integration into the life of the Caribbean region. Passengers value the carrier for its generous baggage allowances on many routes and sincere care for comfort. Unlike many budget airlines, it maintains traditions of full service, offering food and drinks even on medium-haul flights.

The airline's fleet consists of modern Boeing 737 liners and ATR regional turboprop aircraft, allowing it to efficiently serve both long-haul international flights to New York or Toronto and short hops between the islands. Constant fleet renewal and the introduction of digital services emphasize Caribbean Airlines' commitment to meeting global aviation standards.

Baggage

Caribbean Airlines adheres to standards that ensure passenger convenience. For carry-on baggage, one item weighing up to 10 kg with dimensions not exceeding 114 cm in the sum of three dimensions is allowed in the cabin. Additionally, you can bring a personal item such as a laptop, handbag, or briefcase.

The rules for checked baggage depend on the selected fare and destination. On most international flights in economy class, the allowance is one piece weighing up to 23 kg. In business class, passengers are usually entitled to two pieces of 23 kg each. It is important to remember that on short intra-regional flights, allowances may differ, so it is worth checking the details during booking.

If your suitcase is heavier than the established limit, the airline will offer to pay for excess baggage. Rates for overweight or extra pieces depend on the flight zone. Paying online through the company's website is cheaper than at the airport check-in counter.

Special rules apply for transporting special items such as musical instruments or sports equipment (golf, surfing gear). Often, such items require prior notification to the airline and special packaging. Strollers and car seats are usually carried free of charge in addition to the baggage allowance.

For safety reasons, explosives, flammable liquids, high-power lithium batteries, and dangerous chemicals are prohibited for transport. A full list of restrictions is available on the carrier's website.

To ensure a smooth journey, we recommend using durable suitcases and securely attaching tags with your contact details. Packing fragile items in soft clothing inside the suitcase will help avoid damage during transport.

Pet Rules

Traveling with pets requires careful preparation and compliance with Caribbean Airlines regulations. Below are the main conditions for transporting domestic animals.

In-Cabin Transport

  • Only small dogs and cats are allowed in the cabin.
  • The maximum weight of the animal together with the carrier must not exceed 8 kg.
  • The container's dimensions must allow it to be placed freely under the seat in front of you.

Transport in the Baggage Compartment

  • Large animals are transported in a special ventilated compartment.
  • The container must be certified according to IATA standards, be durable, and allow the animal to stand and turn around.
  • The number of spots for animals on a flight is limited, so booking the service in advance is mandatory.

Required Documents

  • Valid veterinary passport.
  • Vaccination certificate (rabies vaccination is mandatory).
  • Import/export permit if required by the laws of the destination country.

Cost and Restrictions

  • The service is paid separately and is not included in the free baggage allowance.
  • There are restrictions for brachycephalic breeds (flat-faced) as they do not tolerate pressure and temperature changes well.
  • During periods of extreme heat or cold, transport in the baggage compartment may be temporarily suspended.

Before your flight, be sure to contact the call center to clarify the current rules, as requirements may change depending on the aircraft type and route.

Services

Caribbean Airlines offers passengers two main classes of service, ensuring comfort on both short regional flights and transcontinental routes.

Economy Class is characterized by traditional Caribbean hospitality: comfortable seats, the option to select a seat, and polite staff. On long-haul flights, passengers are offered full meals and drinks included in the ticket price depending on the fare.

Business Class is a zone of increased comfort. Passengers receive priority registration, relaxation in waiting lounges, and an expanded on-board menu with a choice of hot dishes. Business class seats have increased legroom, allowing for full relaxation during the flight.

In-flight entertainment includes the Caribbean View system — on most aircraft, you can watch movies and listen to music via personal screens or your own mobile devices via Wi-Fi. Also available on board is the Caribbean Beat in-flight magazine, which covers the region's culture and events.

Special attention is given to dedicated services: bassinets for infants and children's menus are provided (upon request). Escort services at the airport are available for people with disabilities. The airline also offers a wide choice of special meals (vegetarian, kosher, etc.), which must be ordered at least 48 hours before departure.

Destinations

The airline has an extensive route network covering more than 16 key markets in the Caribbean region and the Americas. Thanks to well-planned connections, travelers can easily reach the most exotic corners of the islands from the US and Canada.

The main link and primary hub for the carrier is Port of Spain. From here, regular flights depart to cities such as Bridgetown, New York, Toronto, and Georgetown. Routes connecting Jamaica with Florida are also popular, including flights from Kingston and Montego Bay to Fort Lauderdale and Miami.

Booking Tips

To purchase Caribbean Airlines tickets at the best prices, we recommend planning your trip in advance, especially if it coincides with the carnival season. The optimal time for booking is 8-12 weeks before departure. Buying tickets in the middle of the week is often cheaper than on weekends.

Keeping track of special offers and seasonal sales is easiest by subscribing to the newsletter or the official mobile app. The airline often runs "Double Miles" promotions for loyalty program members, offering bonuses for booking specific destinations.

Online check-in opens 24 hours before the flight. We advise completing it as early as possible — this not only saves time at the airport but also gives more chances to select the most comfortable seat in the cabin for free.

When choosing a seat, look for Caribbean Plus options with increased legroom, which are available for a small surcharge. Also, do not forget to take out travel insurance: it will provide protection in case of unforeseen plan changes or baggage delays during the journey.

History

The history of Caribbean Airlines began in September 2006. The airline was created by the government of Trinidad and Tobago as a new national carrier designed to replace the legendary but financially troubled BWIA West Indies Airways. Operations started in early 2007, and from day one, the company focused on modernizing regional air travel.

A landmark event occurred in 2010: Caribbean Airlines completed the acquisition of Air Jamaica's aviation assets. This significantly expanded its market presence and strengthened transport links between the northern and southern islands of the region. From that moment, the company began to play the role of a strategic carrier not only for its own country but for all of Jamaica and Guyana.

Fleet development went hand in hand with network expansion. Old models were replaced by modern Boeing 737-800 liners, and later by the newest Boeing 737 MAX 8. For short inter-island flights, efficient ATR 72-600 turboprop aircraft were purchased, making flights between Trinidad and Tobago more frequent and accessible.

Today, the airline remains a symbol of Caribbean integration and progress. By implementing digital innovations and developing its loyalty program, Caribbean Airlines continues to fulfill its mission: connecting the people and cultures of the region with the world, while maintaining a unique spirit of hospitality and high flight safety standards.
