Baggage

Hunnu Air sets free baggage allowance rules depending on the flight type and selected fare. For carry-on baggage, the standard rule allows for one piece weighing up to 5 kg. The dimensions of the bag allowed in the cabin should not exceed 55 × 40 × 20 cm, allowing it to be conveniently placed in the overhead bin.

The following limits apply to checked baggage: on international flights, passengers can usually carry up to 20 kg, while on domestic routes, the allowance is 15 kg. We recommend weighing your suitcases in advance, as an additional fee is charged for every kilogram of excess weight according to the current rates at the departure airport.

The transportation of special items, such as sports equipment or musical instruments, requires prior coordination with the airline. Strollers are generally carried free of charge in addition to the established baggage allowance, but they must be checked at the aircraft steps.

For safety reasons, it is forbidden to carry flammable substances, toxic materials, and other dangerous goods in baggage and carry-on items. To avoid delays during screening, ensure that all liquids in carry-on baggage are packed in containers of no more than 100 ml and placed in a transparent bag.

Pet Rules

Transportation of animals in the cabin and baggage compartment

Pets are allowed on Hunnu Air flights, however, this service requires mandatory confirmation from the airline at the booking stage. Official rules limit the number of animals on board, so it is important to submit a request in advance.

  • In the cabin: small animals (dogs, cats) are allowed if their weight together with the carrier does not usually exceed the established limit (please confirm with the call center).
  • In the baggage compartment: larger pets are transported in specialized hard-sided containers that meet IATA standards. The container must provide sufficient ventilation and space for the animal.

Necessary documents and veterinary requirements

  • A valid international veterinary passport.
  • Vaccination certificates (primarily against rabies) issued at least 30 days before departure.
  • A microchip for animal identification on international flights.
  • Compliance with the import requirements of the destination country (pet visas, quarantine rules).

Costs and restrictions

Animal transportation is paid as excess baggage at special rates. The airline may impose restrictions on the transportation of brachycephalic breeds (pugs, bulldogs) due to health risks during flight, and may also suspend transportation during periods of extremely high or low temperatures.

Before purchasing a ticket, we strongly recommend contacting Hunnu Air support at +976 7000 1111 for up-to-date instructions and to confirm the possibility of transporting your pet.

  • The basic level is available to all passengers upon purchasing a ticket.
  • Corporate clients may be offered special terms and discounts through direct contracts.
  • Information regarding potential bonus cards or exclusive programs for frequent flyers should be requested directly on the official website or at sales offices in Ulaanbaatar.

How to Benefit

Despite the absence of a confirmed mile-based program, passengers can save by participating in seasonal promotions and purchasing tickets in advance. It is also worth following the airline's news on social media, where special offers from partners (hotels or travel agencies) are sometimes announced.

To clarify the current status of bonus programs and registration rules, we recommend contacting support or checking the Special Offers section at hunnuair.com.

Services

Hunnu Air offers passengers high-quality service tailored to the specifics of regional flights. The primary class of service on most aircraft is Economy Class, which provides comfortable seating in ergonomic chairs with sufficient legroom. On some international flights operated by Embraer aircraft, Business Class may be available with an expanded menu and priority service.

Onboard, passengers are offered drinks and light snacks, the selection of which depends on the flight duration and destination. In-flight entertainment systems on regional aircraft may be limited, so it is recommended to prepare your leisure in advance by downloading content to your mobile devices. Wi-Fi availability is currently not confirmed, which is typical for most regional carriers in Mongolia.

Special attention is paid to special categories of passengers. For travelers with children, unaccompanied minor services are provided, and for people with disabilities, assistance during boarding and disembarkation is available. If you require a special meal (e.g., vegetarian), you must notify the airline at least 24–48 hours before departure. All details about available services on a specific flight under the MR code should be checked on the official website before booking.

Destinations

The flight geography of Hunnu Air covers the most important economic and tourist centers of the region. The international airport in Ulaanbaatar serves as the key hub and link for all routes, from which regular flights are operated across the country.

The airline's international network includes popular destinations in neighboring countries, with Beijing holding a special place. The carrier's routes allow tourists to conveniently plan trips across Central Asia, combining a visit to Mongolia with the major metropolises of the East.

Booking Tips

To purchase Hunnu Air tickets at the best prices, it is recommended to plan your trip in advance, especially if it falls during summer festivals or Mongolian national holidays. The optimal time for booking is 2–3 months before departure. The most convenient way to follow promotions is via the official website or by subscribing to the airline's social media pages.

Regarding online check-in, its availability depends on the specific destination. It typically opens 24 hours before the flight, but on some domestic routes, check-in is only possible at the airport counter. Arriving at the airport early (2–3 hours before departure) will allow you to choose a more comfortable seat in the cabin if the online seat selection service is not available for your fare.

When booking through the airline's website or aggregators, pay attention to the exchange and refund conditions, as budget fares are often non-refundable. For emergency communication regarding booking issues, use the contact center at +976 7000 1111. Also, do not forget to arrange travel insurance to cover potential risks associated with flight delays or baggage loss.

History

The history of Hunnu Air began in 2011 when the company entered the market under its original name, Mongolian Airlines Group. The carrier's start was ambitious: it aimed to create serious competition for the state giant and provide high-quality domestic connections. A significant event occurred in 2013 — a rebranding where the company received its current name to avoid confusion with the national carrier MIAT.

The name change to Hunnu Air marked a new stage of development. The name refers to the ancient Hunnu Empire, emphasizing national identity and historical continuity. During this period, the airline actively expanded its fleet, introducing Fokker 50 aircraft and later transitioning to more modern ATR 72 and Embraer 190 models, which significantly increased the range and comfort of flights.

One of the key milestones in its development was the acquisition of the company by the MAK (Mongolyn Alt Corporation), which provided the necessary financial support for fleet modernization and the opening of new international destinations. The airline was the first among private Mongolian carriers to begin regular flights to China, Russia, and other countries in the Asia-Pacific region.

Today, Hunnu Air continues to strengthen its position as a reliable regional carrier. The implementation of modern booking systems and the constant renewal of its aircraft fleet allow the company to meet international safety standards. Despite market challenges, the carrier remains true to its goal — making Mongolia closer to the rest of the world.
