One of the unique features of LOT Polish Airlines is its use of a modern fleet. The company was one of the first European operators of the innovative Boeing 787 Dreamliner, which is used on long-haul flights, providing passengers with an exceptional level of comfort, air humidity, and cabin quietness.

In addition to transatlantic flights, the company is actively developing regional connections using efficient Embraer and Boeing 737 aircraft. Punctuality and safety are the company's priorities, making it an excellent choice for both business travel and family vacations.

Baggage

Baggage rules for LOT Polish Airlines depend on your selected fare, class of service, and route. For carry-on baggage, the standard allowance in Economy Class is usually one item weighing up to 8 kg with dimensions not exceeding 55x40x23 cm. Business Class passengers can take two such items into the cabin. Additionally, a small personal item, such as a handbag or a laptop bag, is allowed.

Checked baggage allowances also vary. Economy Class fares (except Saver) usually allow one piece weighing up to 23 kg. In Premium Economy, the limit may be increased to two pieces, and in Business Class, up to three pieces weighing 32 kg each. We recommend checking the specific conditions on your e-ticket or in the booking system.

If your baggage exceeds the established weight or size limits, payment for excess baggage will be required. Rates depend on whether you pay for the excess weight online in advance or directly at the airport (online payment is usually more cost-effective). Sports equipment, such as skis or surfboards, can often be carried free of charge if it fits within the overall baggage allowance, but this requires prior coordination.

When packing your items, remember prohibited items: high-power lithium batteries and flammable substances cannot be checked in, and the transport of liquids in carry-on baggage is limited (no more than 100 ml per bottle). To ensure a smooth journey, label your suitcases with tags containing your contact details and try not to transport fragile valuables in checked baggage.

Pet Rules

Cabin Transport

LOT Polish Airlines allows small pets (dogs, cats, and domestic ferrets) to be taken into the aircraft cabin. The animal must be in a special container or carrier bag, the total weight of which, including the pet, must not exceed 8 kg. The container dimensions must not exceed 55x40x20 cm (or 45x30x20 cm for some aircraft types).

Transport in the Baggage Compartment

If the pet and its crate weigh more than 8 kg, it must travel in a specially equipped, heated baggage compartment. The container must meet IATA standards: be sturdy, waterproof, provide adequate ventilation, and allow the animal to stand and turn around. Maximum weight and crate size limits depend on the aircraft type on the specific route.

Required Documents

  • Valid veterinary passport.
  • Microchip for identification.
  • Rabies vaccination certificate and other veterinary certificates according to the destination country's requirements.
  • Special permits if required by the laws of the arrival or transit country.

Cost and Preparation

The pet transport service is paid and calculated as excess baggage at special rates. It is recommended to book a space for your pet at least 24-48 hours before departure, as the number of animals on board is limited. Before the flight, acclimate your pet to the crate, and give it a light meal and water a few hours before the flight.

Restrictions

Restrictions may apply to the transport of certain breeds, especially brachycephalic (flat-faced) animals, due to the risk of breathing problems at high altitudes. Transport may also be limited during periods of extreme temperatures. Before planning your trip, be sure to contact the airline's service center to confirm the rules for your flight.

Services

Passengers of LOT Polish Airlines are offered a choice of three main classes of service. Business Class on long-haul flights features full lie-flat seats, an exquisite menu from a chef, and access to exclusive departure lounges. Premium Economy offers extra legroom and improved dining, while Economy Class combines affordable pricing with traditional Polish hospitality and modern ergonomic seats.

Modern airliners such as the Dreamliner are equipped with an advanced entertainment system. Passengers have access to personal screens with a wide selection of movies, music, and games. Wi-Fi access is also offered on many flights. In-flight meals depend on flight duration and class: from light snacks on short routes to multi-course hot meals with a selection of wines on intercontinental destinations.

The airline pays special attention to special services. For travelers with children, there are children's kits, bassinets (upon prior request), and a special menu. Passengers with disabilities can count on full support at all stages of the journey. An unaccompanied minor service is also available for children traveling without parents. If you have special dietary preferences, you can order vegetarian, kosher, or halal meals at least 24 hours before departure.

Destinations

The LOT Polish Airlines route network covers key cities in Europe, North America, and Asia. Thanks to the convenient location of its main hub in Warsaw, the airline offers fast and comfortable connections between East and West, serving as a link for millions of travelers.

Regular flights are operated to major metropolises such as Frankfurt am Main, Munich, and Vienna. The carrier also provides frequent connections to cities in neighboring countries, including Prague, Vilnius, and Istanbul, maintaining high service standards on all routes.

The domestic flight network in Poland makes it easy to get from the capital to cities such as Krakow, Gdansk, and Wroclaw. Whether you are planning a business trip or a tourist adventure, the airline's flight geography will provide you with an optimal route.

Booking Tips

To purchase LOT Polish Airlines tickets at the most favorable prices, we recommend planning your trip in advance — ideally 2–3 months before departure. The best offers often appear mid-week, especially on Tuesday and Wednesday, when demand is lower than on weekends. It is also useful to follow seasonal sales and promotions, such as "Crazy Wednesday" (Szalona Środa), when tickets to many destinations are offered at significant discounts.

Online check-in opens 36 hours before departure. We recommend completing it as early as possible to be able to choose the most comfortable seats in the cabin for free or at a minimal price. If you prefer more legroom, pay attention to seats at the front of the Economy Class cabin or near emergency exits, which may be offered for an additional fee.

Using the LOT mobile app significantly simplifies the booking management process. In the app, you can not only quickly buy a ticket but also store boarding passes electronically and receive real-time flight status notifications. Don't forget about travel insurance: when buying a ticket, the airline may offer a policy covering medical expenses and trip cancellation, providing you with additional peace of mind during your journey.

History

LOT Polish Airlines is one of the oldest airlines in the world, starting its history on January 1, 1929. It was formed by the merger of all private airlines operating in Poland at that time. From the very beginning of its existence, the company strove for innovation, becoming an important symbol of the reborn Polish statehood and the country's technical progress.

As early as the 1930s, the company began actively expanding its international network, launching flights to Bucharest, Athens, and Beirut. Despite the difficulties caused by World War II, the carrier resumed its operations in 1945. In the post-war period, the fleet was gradually updated, moving from Soviet technology to modern Western models, which became a landmark event in the history of civil aviation in the region.

A major milestone was joining the Star Alliance global alliance in 2003, which opened new horizons and travel opportunities worldwide for passengers. The airline constantly improved its service quality, investing in staff training and modernizing ground services at Frederic Chopin Airport in Warsaw.

The modern history of LOT is inextricably linked with fleet renewal and the launch of ambitious long-haul routes to Tokyo, Seoul, Beijing, and North American cities. Today, the company continues to develop, implementing sustainability programs and digital innovations, while maintaining its unique style and reputation as a reliable European carrier.
