Baggage

Middle East Airlines adheres to baggage carriage standards typical of traditional network carriers. Allowance rules depend directly on the chosen fare, class of service, and specific route, so it is always worth checking the details when booking your ticket.

Hand luggage: Economy class passengers are usually allowed to bring 1 piece of cabin baggage weighing up to 10 kg. Travelers in business class are entitled to a more generous allowance. The bag's dimensions must allow it to be placed in the overhead bin or under the seat in front of you.

Checked baggage: MEA applies a piece concept system. In economy class, the allowance is typically 1 piece weighing up to 23 kg, while in business class ("Cedar Class"), passengers can check 2 pieces of 23 kg each (or more, depending on the destination). Additional weight privileges are provided for loyalty program members with Elite status.

Special baggage: The transportation of sports equipment, musical instruments, and strollers is governed by separate rules. Strollers are usually carried free of charge, while ski equipment or golf bags may require prior coordination. Excess weight beyond the allowance is paid at fixed rates at the airport or in advance on the website.

Prohibited items: For safety reasons, it is forbidden to carry flammable substances, toxic materials, and other dangerous goods. It is recommended to use sturdy suitcases and remember to tag your luggage with your contact details.

Pet Rules

Carriage of Animals in the Cabin

  • Small dogs and cats are allowed in the aircraft cabin.
  • The maximum weight of the animal together with the carrier usually should not exceed 7–10 kg (check the website for exact data).
  • The carrier must have ventilation holes and a waterproof bottom, and its dimensions must allow it to be placed under the seat in front of you.

Carriage in the Cargo Hold

  • Animals whose weight exceeds the cabin limits are transported in a heated cargo compartment.
  • The container must be IATA-certified and spacious enough for the pet to stand up and turn around.

Services

Middle East Airlines offers world-class service, combining modern technology with traditional attention to the guest. The aircraft feature two main classes of service: Economy and the signature Cedar Class (Business Class).

In Cedar Class, passengers are offered spacious seats that, on many aircraft types, recline into comfortable beds. Travelers are provided with access to exclusive lounge areas, expedited pre-flight formalities, and an exquisite menu consisting of Lebanese and international cuisine. In economy class, passengers can also expect full meals and drinks included in the ticket price.

The on-board entertainment system includes individual screens with a wide selection of movies, music, and games. On modern Airbus A321neo aircraft, Wi-Fi connectivity is available, allowing you to stay connected even at an altitude of 10,000 meters. For young travelers, special children's kits and menus are provided (subject to advance order).

Special attention is paid to passengers with special needs. MEA provides assistance services for people with reduced mobility and children traveling without parents. A wide range of special meals is also available, from vegetarian and diabetic to halal dishes, making the flight comfortable for every customer.

Destinations

The Middle East Airlines route network covers key cities in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. The primary hub is the modern facility in Beirut, from where flights depart to major metropolises such as Paris, London, and Istanbul.

The airline plays an important role in the region, providing stable connections to Dubai, Cairo, and Amman. The flight geography is constantly optimized to offer the most convenient connections for business travelers and tourists traveling from the Gulf countries to Europe and back.

Booking Tips

To purchase Middle East Airlines tickets at the best possible prices, it is recommended to plan your trip in advance, especially if you intend to fly during holiday periods. The most affordable fares usually go on sale 3–4 months before departure.

Using the official MEA mobile app offers several advantages: you can promptly receive notifications about promotions, manage your booking, and complete online check-in, which opens 24 hours before the flight. Early check-in not only saves time at the airport but also allows you to choose the most comfortable seats in the cabin.

When choosing a fare, pay attention to the flexibility conditions. The airline offers several ticket categories: from budget non-refundable to fully flexible fares that allow you to change your departure date without penalties. Also, don't forget to check for travel insurance, which may be offered during the booking process to protect your trip from unforeseen circumstances.

History

The history of Middle East Airlines began in 1945 when the airline was founded in Beirut. From the very start of its journey, the carrier sought to become a bridge between cultures, connecting Lebanon with neighboring states and major world capitals. As early as 1946, the first international flights were launched, laying the foundation for future growth.

A landmark milestone in the company's development was the merger with Air Liban in 1963, which significantly expanded the fleet and flight geography. Despite various historical challenges in the region, MEA has always maintained its operations, demonstrating incredible resilience and dedication to its passengers. In the 1990s, the company underwent a large-scale modernization, renewing its fleet and implementing international quality standards.

In 2012, Middle East Airlines officially joined the SkyTeam alliance, confirming its high status on the world stage. This event opened a new chapter in the company's history, allowing the Lebanese carrier to integrate into a global network of routes and offer customers access to hundreds of destinations worldwide.

Today, Middle East Airlines continues to invest in eco-friendly technologies, acquiring modern Airbus A321neo and A330 airliners. The company is actively developing digital services and sustainability programs while maintaining its unique style and reputation as one of the most hospitable airlines in the world.
