Baggage

Baggage rules at Royal Air Maroc are designed with passenger comfort in mind; however, they may vary depending on the specific fare and destination. As hand luggage in economy class, one piece weighing up to 10 kg with dimensions not exceeding 55x40x20 cm is usually permitted. Business class passengers are often entitled to two pieces of hand luggage with similar weight restrictions.

Checked baggage allowances also depend on the class of service. On most international flights, economy class includes one free piece weighing up to 23 kg. In business class, the allowance increases to two pieces of 23 kg each or one piece weighing up to 32 kg. It is important to remember that minimal promo fares may not include free baggage at all, so terms should be verified on your ticket.

If your baggage exceeds the set limits, you will need to pay for excess baggage. Rates for overweight or extra pieces depend on the route. The maximum weight of a single piece of baggage that can be accepted for transport is 32 kg. Anything weighing more must be handled through the cargo department.

Special rules apply for the transport of special items, such as sports equipment (skis, bicycles) or musical instruments. Often, these items require prior coordination and separate payment. Strollers and car seats for infants are usually transported free of charge in addition to the established baggage allowance.

For safety reasons, it is prohibited to carry explosive, flammable substances, gases, poisons, and other dangerous items in both checked and hand luggage. It is recommended to pack fragile items in hard-shell suitcases and use protective wrap, while valuable items, documents, and electronics should always be taken into the aircraft cabin.

Pet Rules

Cabin Transportation

Royal Air Maroc allows travel with pets (cats and dogs) if their weight, including the carrier, does not exceed the established limits (usually up to 8 kg). The carrier must be soft or hard-sided, well-ventilated, and its dimensions must allow it to fit under the seat in front of you.

Cargo Hold Transportation

Animals whose weight exceeds the cabin limits are transported in a specialized heated cargo compartment. This requires a hard-sided container that meets IATA standards, in which the animal can freely stand, turn around, and lie down. Confirmation from the airline must be obtained before the flight.

Required Documents

  • International veterinary passport.
  • Health certificate and valid vaccinations (including rabies).
  • Identification microchip.
  • Compliance with the import requirements of the destination country (certificates, permits).

Cost and Preparation

The cost of pet transportation is calculated as excess baggage and depends on the pet's weight and the flight distance. It is recommended to feed the animal light food and provide access to water 24 hours before the flight. The use of sedatives is not recommended without consulting a veterinarian.

Restrictions

  • There are restrictions on the transportation of brachycephalic breeds (pugs, bulldogs, Persian cats) due to health risks during flight.
  • During periods of extreme heat or cold, transportation in the cargo hold may be restricted.

It is recommended to contact the airline's call center in advance to clarify the current quotas and rules for a specific flight.

Services

Royal Air Maroc positions itself as a full-service carrier, offering a high level of service in two main classes. In Economy Class, passengers receive ergonomic seats with adjustable headrests and sufficient legroom. Business Class on long-haul Dreamliner aircraft features full-flat beds, personal space for work and relaxation, and exclusive travel amenity kits.

Onboard catering is a point of pride for the airline. On international flights, passengers are offered complimentary hot meals inspired by Moroccan and international cuisine. In Business Class, the menu is complemented by gourmet appetizers and a wide selection of beverages. Special meals (halal, vegetarian, or children's) can be ordered in advance during the booking process or through your personal account.

The onboard entertainment system includes personal monitors with a rich library of movies, music, and games. Real-time flight information is available on modern aircraft. Regarding connectivity services, Wi-Fi is being introduced on part of the fleet, with terms of use depending on the selected fare and aircraft type.

Additional amenities are provided for families with children: the ability to request a bassinet for infants, priority boarding, and special entertainment kits. The airline also offers an unaccompanied minor service and ensures all necessary conditions for passengers with reduced mobility, guaranteeing safety and comfort at all stages of the journey.

Destinations

The Royal Air Maroc route network covers key cities worldwide, providing reliable connections between continents. The strategic center for all operations is the hub in Casablanca, which offers convenient connections to West African countries, Europe, and North America.

The airline operates regular flights to metropolises such as New York and Paris, and maintains active service to Spanish cities, including Madrid and Barcelona. Domestically, the carrier connects major tourist and business centers, such as Marrakech and Agadir, ensuring high flight frequency and regional accessibility.

Booking Tips

To purchase Royal Air Maroc tickets at the best prices, it is recommended to plan your trip in advance—optimally 2-3 months before departure. The best offers often appear on the official website midweek, while costs may increase on weekends and holidays. It is also worth keeping an eye out for seasonal sales that the airline holds during periods of low demand.

Online check-in opens 48 hours before departure. We recommend checking in as early as possible: this not only saves time at the airport but also gives you a better chance to choose a more comfortable seat in the cabin for free. For those who value maximum comfort, paid seat selection options with extra legroom are available and can be arranged during check-in or booking.

The airline's mobile app is an indispensable tool for the modern tourist. Through it, you can not only quickly buy a ticket but also receive notifications about flight status changes, store boarding passes, and monitor your mile balance. Sometimes, exclusive fares are available in the app that are not found on other resources.

When booking a ticket, do not forget to pay attention to the fare conditions regarding refunds and exchanges. Flexible fares are more expensive but eliminate penalties when plans change. It is also recommended to take out travel insurance to cover expenses in case of unforeseen trip cancellation or baggage problems. Always double-check the entered data before final payment.

History

The history of Royal Air Maroc began in 1957 when the national carrier of the newly independent Kingdom of Morocco was created through the merger of Air Atlas and Air Maroc. Since its founding, the company has become a symbol of the country's sovereignty and an important tool for developing its international ties. From its early years, the airline focused on building a bridge between Africa and Europe.

Over the following decades, the flight geography expanded rapidly. Major milestones included the launch of transatlantic flights and the development of the African market, where the company took a leading position. The hub in Casablanca gradually transformed into the region's largest aviation node, connecting the north and south of the continent.

The evolution of the Royal Air Maroc fleet progressed from early propeller aircraft to the latest jet liners. A landmark event was the introduction of the Boeing 747, and later, the innovative Boeing 787 Dreamliners, which significantly improved comfort on long-haul routes and reduced environmental impact.

April 1, 2020, became a historic date for the airline: Royal Air Maroc officially joined the oneworld global alliance. This entry was recognition of the carrier's high safety and service standards, opening access to the resources of the world's best airlines for the Moroccan company and providing its passengers with unprecedented travel opportunities.

Today, the airline continues to follow a strategy of modernization and digitalization. The implementation of sustainable development programs and innovative technologies in the booking and onboard service processes confirms Royal Air Maroc's status as a modern and dynamically developing carrier, ready for the future challenges of global civil aviation.
