General Weather Overview

Cabinda is a unique city and province serving as an exclave of Angola, geographically separated from the country's main territory. Located on the Atlantic coast, this region attracts travellers with a combination of business activity and pristine natural beauty. The city is renowned for its colonial architecture, picturesque beaches, and distinct local atmosphere.

One of the region's main natural attractions is the famous Mayombe Forest — a dense tropical expanse that amazes with its biodiversity. For eco-tourism enthusiasts, this is a true gem where one can immerse oneself in the atmosphere of the wild. The coast offers opportunities for relaxation by the ocean, while local markets allow visitors to discover traditional crafts and cuisine.

The climate here is tropical, with clearly defined seasons. The most comfortable time to visit is the "Cacimbo" period from June to September. During these months, there is practically no rainfall, and the average air temperature is a pleasant +22...+24°C. From October to May, the weather becomes hotter and more humid, with frequent rains, especially in November and April.

Temperature

The climate in this region is distinguished by enviable stability, so Cabinda delights travellers with warmth almost all year round. The hottest period here is from February to April, when the average air temperature holds at around +27°C. In March, considered the peak of the warm season, daily highs regularly reach +29°C. Combined with high humidity, this creates a true tropical atmosphere, ideal for those who enjoy hot weather.

The conditional "winter", occurring in the Southern Hemisphere from June to August, brings pleasant coolness and is much easier to tolerate. During this time, the average temperature drops to +22…+24°C. July and August are the coolest months, when the air warms up to a comfortable +24°C during the day, and at night the thermometer drops to +20…+21°C. This time, known as the "Cacimbo" season, is excellent for long walks and exploring the city without the exhausting heat.

A remarkable feature of the weather is the minimal temperature fluctuation throughout the day. The difference between day and night readings in any season is only 3–4 degrees, which eliminates the need for heavy clothing. Even on the "coldest" nights, the temperature remains quite comfortable, creating mild and predictable conditions for relaxation at any time of the year.

Precipitation

Precipitation patterns in the city of Cabinda have a distinct seasonality typical for this region of Angola. The year is clearly divided into wet and dry periods. The rainy season here is quite long: it begins in October and lasts until April. During these months, rainfall is regular, reaching a peak frequency in November, December, and January, when 23 to 25 rainy days are recorded monthly.

The dry season arrives in June and continues until the end of August. This time is characterized by minimal rainfall. July is considered the driest month of the year: statistics show a complete absence of rainy days, and in June and August, rains occur extremely rarely, on average no more than a couple of times a month. September is a transitional period when the frequency of precipitation begins to gradually increase.

What to Pack

Travelling to Cabinda requires a thoughtful approach to your wardrobe, as the climate here dictates its rules depending on the season. During the rainy period, which lasts from October to May, you will definitely need a high-quality raincoat or a sturdy umbrella, as well as waterproof shoes. Since the air temperature at this time stays around +26…+27°C, opt for clothing made of light, breathable fabrics such as cotton and linen to feel comfortable in high humidity.

In the dry season, from June to September, precipitation is unlikely, and the air becomes fresher, cooling on average to +22…+24°C. For this time of year, as well as for evening strolls, it is worth bringing a light windbreaker, cardigan, or long-sleeved top to use the layering principle. Do not forget about sun protection: a head covering, sunglasses, and cream with SPF are mandatory year-round. It is also strongly recommended to bring comfortable shoes for walking and insect repellents.
