By visiting the René Brusau Museum of Fine Arts, you will discover an impressive collection featuring both recognized classics and works by contemporary masters from Chaco Province. The museum's exhibitions vividly demonstrate the connection between eras, showcasing the art of local indigenous communities and artifacts that tell the story of the region's development.

Performing arts lovers should check the event schedule in advance: the complex regularly hosts Symphony Orchestra concerts and Contemporary Ballet performances. Theater productions and temporary exhibitions dedicated to cultural heritage and the history of immigration make every visit to the Casa de las Culturas special and memorable.

After a walk through the halls, it's pleasant to spend some time in the local café over a cup of coffee or visit the bookstore. There, you can find rare editions and purchase art pieces created by local artisans. This place serves as the main point of attraction for artists and creators, so you can always feel the vibrant rhythm of Resistencia's cultural life.

Getting There

Finding this art center is easy—it is located at Marcelo T. de Alvear, 90, right across from the city's main square. Thanks to its central location, it is within easy walking distance of most hotels and tourist spots in Resistencia.

If you are coming from an outlying area, it is most convenient to take a taxi or use local bus routes that stop in the immediate vicinity of the central square. For those who prefer to travel by their own or a rental car, there is a small parking lot on the complex grounds.

Travelers arriving in the region by plane can reach the city center from the airport in about 15–20 minutes by taxi or public transport. The well-developed infrastructure makes the Casa de las Culturas one of the most accessible and must-visit spots on the map of Chaco Province.

History & Facts

The grand opening of this ambitious project took place on December 19, 2010. The idea for a large-scale cultural center came from the government of Chaco Province, and the construction of the complex cost approximately 18 million pesos. The opening was marked by a major artistic performance, culminating in the premiere of the cantata "Coral Terrestre," which emphasized the significance of the event for the entire northeast of the country.

The Museum of Fine Arts within the complex was named after René Brusau, a talented artist from Córdoba. He moved to Resistencia and, during his short life (passing away at the age of 35), managed to become a key figure in shaping the province's cultural identity. His legacy continues to live on within the walls of this building, inspiring new generations of creators.

The emergence of Casa de las Culturas was a logical continuation of a tradition established in the mid-20th century. Resistencia has long been known as the "City of Sculptures" thanks to a unique 1961 initiative to decorate the streets with works of art. The new complex realized the dream of local cultural figures to create a modern space where art is accessible to every resident and guest of the region.

Time Needed

When planning your visit, expect that a thoughtful exploration of all the exhibitions will take between 2 to 4 hours. This is enough time to leisurely browse the Museum of Fine Arts, see the temporary exhibitions, and relax in the café.

For a quick tour of the main areas and the building's architecture, 1–2 hours might be sufficient. However, if you decide to attend an evening symphony orchestra concert or a ballet performance, it is better to set aside a whole free evening to fully immerse yourself in the creative atmosphere.

Working Hours

Please take note of the operating schedule, which accounts for the local tradition of an afternoon break (siesta). On weekdays, from Monday to Friday, the center's doors are open to visitors from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM and, after a break, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. This schedule is convenient for both morning excursions and evening events.

On Saturday, Casa de las Culturas is open only in the morning — from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Sunday is a day off, so we recommend planning your cultural program for other days of the week to ensure you don't miss the opportunity to see the region's main collections.
