What to Do

Start your museum experience by exploring its permanent exhibition. Here, you can see the personal belongings of the Baron of Jundiaí, antique furniture, and artifacts that tell the story of the Queirós Telles family's contribution to the region's development. High ceilings, original window frames, and decorative glass create a unique 1860s ambiance, allowing you to literally touch the history of the "coffee" era.

Be sure to set aside time for a walk through the courtyard. The museum gardens are a true oasis of silence. Here, you can admire the Japanese corner, watch koi in the pond, or relax under the shade of the trees. For families with children, there are interesting installations from the "City of Children" program, including a treehouse and educational signs about local birds.

In addition, the museum often hosts temporary exhibitions, lectures, and musical concerts in the Sala Jahyr Accioly de Souza auditorium. Thanks to free admission and the combination of museum halls with open green spaces, this place is excellent for a leisurely cultural break and immersion in the colonial heritage of Jundiaí.

Getting There

Getting to the museum in Jundiaí is quite simple, as it is located at Rua Barão de Jundiaí, 762, in the very heart of the historical district. If you are already in the city center, the mansion is an easy walk from the main square, Praça Barão de Jundiaí.

For travelers from São Paulo, the largest metropolis in Brazil, it is most convenient to take the CPTM suburban train line to the terminal station, Jundiaí. From the station to the museum, you can take a taxi for a 5–10 minute ride or take a short walk that takes about 15 minutes.

For those who prefer to drive, the trip from São Paulo via the Rodovia Anhanguera or Bandeirantes highway takes about an hour. There are both paid and free parking spaces near the museum, but it can be difficult to find an empty spot in the city center on weekdays, so it is better to use a taxi or city buses heading to the "Centro" stop.

History & Facts

The history of the Solar do Barão began in the early 1860s, when Antônio de Queirós Telles decided to build a luxurious residence in the city center. At that time, Jundiaí was experiencing an economic boom thanks to the railway and sugarcane and coffee plantations. The mansion became a symbol of the wealth and influence of the Queirós Telles family, whose members belonged to the high aristocracy of the state of São Paulo.

Interestingly, the building was constructed using the taipa-de-pilão technique—walls built from tightly rammed earth. Despite the seemingly simple material, the house has remained in excellent condition, preserving its original partitions and decorative façade elements, which were updated in 1862. In 1970, the mansion was placed under state protection as an important architectural and historical monument.

The museum itself was officially established back in 1955, but for a long time, it had no permanent home and moved between several locations, including "Grape Park." The collection only found its current home in the Solar do Barão in 1982. Since then, the museum has tirelessly collected and preserved evidence of the city's life—from the era of coffee plantations to the development of local industry.

Time Needed

To leisurely explore the main exhibition halls and stroll through the museum's picturesque gardens, most visitors need about 1.5 to 2.5 hours. This is plenty of time to get acquainted with the permanent exhibition, peek into the courtyard, and enjoy the atmosphere of the old mansion.

Thanks to its compact location in the city center, a visit to the museum is easy to combine with other sightseeing or a break at a local café. It is an ideal option for a meaningful yet relaxing morning or afternoon activity.

The museum is open to visitors from Tuesday to Saturday. The institution is closed on Mondays and Sundays. From Tuesday to Friday, the mansion's doors are open from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. On Saturdays, the museum operates on a shortened schedule—from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
