Manaus, located in the heart of the Brazilian Amazon, possesses a distinct equatorial climate. Eternal summer reigns here: heat and high humidity accompany travellers all year round. The temperature regime is surprisingly stable — average figures fluctuate around 27–29°C, and even at night the air rarely cools below 24°C, creating the atmosphere of a true tropical greenhouse.

Instead of the usual change of four seasons, the year here is divided into two main periods: the rainy season and the dry season. From December to May, precipitation falls very often, sometimes practically daily, filling the rivers and reviving the lush vegetation of the jungle. At this time, rains can be intense, but they often come in the form of heavy showers and are quickly replaced by the sun.

A drier period lasts approximately from June to November. During these months, especially in August and September, the number of rainy days decreases noticeably, and daytime temperatures reach their peak, rising above 32°C. This time is considered favourable for those who want to avoid frequent downpours, however, it is worth being prepared for more intense sun and heat.

The climate in Manaus is distinguished by enviable constancy: eternal summer reigns here, characteristic of equatorial latitudes. The annual temperature range is minimal, and the concept of cold is practically unknown to locals. The hottest month, according to statistics, is September, when the average temperature reaches 29.4°C, and daytime maximums regularly exceed the 33°C mark. Even in the nominally "cool" January, average figures hold at the level of 26.9°C, which makes the city a hot destination at any time of the year.

Interestingly, the calendar winter of the Southern Hemisphere (June–August) does not bring the usual coolness to Manaus. On the contrary, by August the air warms up to 32.4°C during the day, and the amount of precipitation decreases, creating a dry heat. At the same time, in the period from December to May, when the most rain falls, cloud cover slightly holds back the daytime heat within 29.5°C, however, high humidity makes the air thick and saturated.

Daily temperature fluctuations here are also small. The difference between the daytime peak and the night minimum usually constitutes only 4–8 degrees. Nights in Manaus are invariably warm and sultry: even before dawn, the thermometer rarely drops below 24–25°C. Tourists should not count on significant nighttime coolness, so light and breathable clothing will be relevant around the clock.

Even in the drier season, falling on August and September, tropical downpours are possible, so be sure to take a light raincoat or a compact umbrella with you. Considering the climate, the best choice will be quick-drying clothing, which will ensure comfort even with high humidity.

Do not forget about comfortable footwear: for walking around the city and excursions, you will need sturdy trainers or trekking sandals with non-slip soles. Protection from the equatorial sun is also critically important: be sure to put a hat with a wide brim, sunglasses, and high SPF cream in your suitcase. Despite the heat outside, a light long-sleeved top may be useful for protection against insects in the evening or for rooms with strong air conditioning.
