The cathedral building is impressive in scale: it can accommodate up to 5,000 people at once, making it one of the most significant religious structures in the country. The facade is decorated with intricate bas-reliefs and gilded elements, while a massive stained-glass rose window graces the main entrance, filling the interior with soft, multicolored light.

The architectural concept is based on a strict structural system typical of classical Gothic churches. The cross-shaped layout symbolizes the Body of Christ, and the powerful buttresses not only support the structure but also carry deep symbolic meaning, emphasizing the spiritual resilience and grandeur of this holy site.

History & Facts

The history of this grand structure began in 1901. Construction of the main building was completed a decade later, in 1911, though meticulous work on the interior decoration and detailing continued until 1917. The project was entrusted to the talented architect Tomasz Bohdanowicz-Dworzecki, who embodied the best traditions of the Neo-Gothic style in stone.

A surprising fact is that the funds for construction were literally collected from the community: Catholics from all over Russia and abroad donated to this project. The total cost of building the cathedral was an impressive sum for that time—300,000 gold rubles. Polish workers employed on the railway in this region played a special role in forming the parish.

The solemn consecration of the church in honor of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary took place on December 8, 1911. Since then, the cathedral has become not only a religious center but also a symbol of community unity. Later in 1911, the church grounds were adorned with an elegant decorative fence, designed in a unified Neo-Gothic ensemble with the building, finalising its recognizable appearance.
