The city of Heyuan, located in Guangdong Province in southern China, is characterized by a subtropical monsoon climate. The weather here is distinctly seasonal: summers are typically hot and humid, while winters are mild and mostly dry. With approximately 300 sunny days a year, the city remains an attractive destination for tourists almost year-round.

Seasonal transitions in the region are smooth, without sharp temperature contrasts. The hot period lasts from late May to early October, when high humidity is often accompanied by tropical showers. In contrast, the winter months offer fresh air and clear skies, making them ideal for sightseeing and exploring natural attractions without the exhausting heat.

A general characteristic of the climate is consistent warmth; however, travelers should be aware of the possibility of typhoons between May and November. Despite this, Heyuan maintains its reputation as a sunny and welcoming land where nature remains evergreen all year round.

The temperature regime in Heyuan is defined by consistent warmth throughout the year. The hottest months are July and August, when daytime highs regularly stay around +31–33°C. Combined with high humidity, these temperatures create a "sauna effect," so it's best to spend the peak heat in the shade or air-conditioned rooms.

Winter in this part of China is very mild. January is considered the coldest month, but even then, the average daytime temperature is a comfortable +18°C, and at night, the thermometer rarely drops below +9°C. Frost is virtually non-existent here, making Heyuan a great place to escape harsh northern winters.

It is worth noting the daily temperature fluctuations: during transitional periods like spring and autumn, the difference between daytime warmth and evening cool can reach 8–10 degrees. The average annual temperature in the city is around +24–25°C, providing comfortable conditions for living and traveling for almost five months of the active hot season.

Precipitation in Heyuan is unevenly distributed, forming distinct wet and dry seasons. The rainy season falls between May and October, peaking in June and August. During these months, the region is influenced by monsoons that bring heavy downpours; for instance, rainfall in June can exceed 330 mm, with up to 27 rainy days in a month.

Summer rains are usually powerful but brief tropical showers, after which sunny weather quickly returns. However, high humidity—reaching 85%—makes the heat feel more intense. During this same period, the likelihood of typhoons increases, bringing gusty winds and prolonged precipitation.

The dry season lasts from December to April and is most favorable for those who prefer clear skies. December and January are the driest months, with minimal rainfall (only 18–37 mm) and a maximum number of sunny days. Such stable weather allows tourists to enjoy the beauty of China without worrying about sudden whims of nature.

When heading to Heyuan in the summer (June to August), be sure to choose clothing made of natural breathable fabrics, such as cotton or linen. Due to the high probability of daily showers, you should have a compact umbrella or a quality raincoat in your luggage. High-SPF sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat are also essential, as the sun in southern China is very intense even through the clouds.

For a trip during the winter months (December–February), it is best to use the principle of layering. You will be comfortable in light clothing during the day, but a windbreaker, sweater, or light jacket will come in handy for cool evenings. Comfortable closed-toe walking shoes are a must-have wardrobe item for any season.

In spring and autumn, the weather can be changeable, so it's worth bringing both light items and long-sleeved clothing. If you plan to visit nature parks, don't forget insect repellent and a small first-aid kit. Choose quick-drying materials that will keep you comfortable in fluctuating humidity.
