The climate in Xishan is of a subtropical monsoon type, typical for the southern provinces of China. The city greets travelers with distinct seasonality: summers are hot and humid, while winters are surprisingly mild and almost snowless. Transitional periods, such as spring and autumn, are considered the most favorable for visiting thanks to comfortable temperatures ranging from 20–28°C and plenty of sunny days.

One of the key features of the local weather is high solar activity and significant rainfall during the warm season. Despite the summer monsoons, the region is characterized by a low probability of extreme weather events, making it a stable and attractive destination for outdoor activities and sightseeing throughout the year.

The temperature regime in Xishan shows noticeable fluctuations depending on the season, while remaining quite moderate. In the coldest months, January and February, the daytime temperature usually stays around +13–17°C, while at night it can drop to +4–6°C. With the arrival of spring, the air warms up quickly, and by March, daytime highs often reach +21–25°C, though nights still retain a refreshing chill.

The summer period in China brings real heat: in July and August, average daytime figures are around +25°C, but in the sun, temperatures often rise above +30°C. Due to the specific mountain terrain, Xishan is characterized by significant daily temperature swings — the difference between daytime warmth and nighttime cooling can be as much as 15–20°C, which should be considered when planning evening walks.

Precipitation in Xishan is strongly seasonal. The bulk of the rain occurs during the monsoon period from May to October, when monthly totals can exceed 200–300 mm. June, July, and August are traditionally considered the wettest months — during this time, rain is very frequent, often taking the form of intense downpours, and the number of rainy days per month can reach 22–24.

The spring period in China, especially March, marks the beginning of the wet season in this region. During this time, the probability of precipitation increases significantly, and the sky is often overcast. In contrast to the humid summer, the winter months (December–February) are marked by a dry season with minimal precipitation — less than 50 mm per month. Snow in Xishan is an exceptional rarity due to the mild subtropical climate.

When packing for a trip to Xishan, the golden rule is the principle of layering. For the spring and autumn months, light T-shirts are perfect for the day, complemented by a windbreaker or a thick sweater for cool nights when temperatures can drop significantly. An essential attribute, especially from March to October, is an umbrella or a high-quality raincoat, as sudden downpours are common in this part of China.

In the summer heat, it is best to opt for clothing made of natural fabrics (cotton, linen) and not to forget sunglasses and sunscreen with a high SPF factor due to strong UV radiation. In winter, heavy gear is not required: a sweater and a light jacket will suffice. For comfortably exploring the surroundings and mountain trails, sturdy closed shoes are vital, and during the warmer months, insect repellent may also come in handy.
