The main highlight of the park is the preservation of the tropical dry forest ecosystem right in the heart of the city. Strolling along its paths, you can encounter exotic residents: sloths, iguanas, squirrels, and noisy troops of monkeys. It is a place where nature literally reaches out to greet you, and the thick shade of the trees offers a welcome escape from the Caribbean sun.

\n\n

The park's infrastructure is divided into thematic zones: ecological, cultural, and recreational. Here, you will find not only shaded trails and bike paths but also an open-air theater, a museum, artisan areas, and cozy restaurants. Along the river, piers are set up for planchones — traditional boats that have become an essential part of the local flavor.

What to Do

There is something for everyone at Ronda del Sinú Park. Start your exploration in the ecological zone: here, you can go on a real "photo hunt" for iguanas and sloths lazily resting on tree branches. Active travelers will appreciate the extensive cycling and walking paths, perfect for a long jog or a bike ride with views of the majestic river.

\n\n

For those seeking cultural enrichment, the park features open exhibition spaces and an outdoor stage, where dance groups and musicians often perform. Be sure to stop by the artisan zone to purchase authentic souvenirs, such as the famous sombrero vueltiao hats, or try some local ice cream at one of the many stalls.

\n\n

Don't miss the opportunity to cross the river on a planchón. These roofed rafts are a signature of the city and allow you to see the park from the water. In the evening, Ronda del Sinú is transformed by stunning lighting, and during holiday periods, the park turns into a fairy-tale forest decorated with thousands of Christmas lights, making it an ideal spot for a romantic walk or a family dinner at the open-air restaurants.

Getting There

Ronda del Sinú Park is conveniently located along the eastern bank of the Sinú River, spanning the area from 21st to 41st Street. If you are arriving in Montería by plane, the trip from Los Garces Airport by taxi or Uber will take about 15–20 minutes. The park is also easily accessible by public transport from the city's main bus station.

\n\n

For those already in the center, walking is an excellent option as the park is integrated into the urban environment and connected to Avenida Primera. Drivers can use the Segundo Centenario Bridge as a landmark. If you are on the west bank of the river, be sure to use the planchones — traditional wooden ferry rafts that will take you directly to the park's piers.

\n\n

Cycling enthusiasts should consider renting a bike. Modern bike lanes (ciclorrutas) run along the entire park, making the ride safe and pleasant. Parking areas for private vehicles are also provided near the main entrances to the park.

History & Facts

The history of Ronda del Sinú Park began in 2005 at the initiative of Mayor León Fidel Ojeda. The project was conceived as a way to return the Sinú River to its central role in city life, turning abandoned banks into a modern recreational space. Until the mid-20th century, the river was the main transport artery of the region, connecting Montería with Cartagena and other cities in the Córdoba department.

\n\n

Over the years, the project expanded: in 2010, the northern section — Ronda del Norte — opened, featuring a 15-meter observation tower. Sculptures dedicated to ancient pre-Columbian cultures — the Finzenú, Panzenú, and Zenufana, who once inhabited these lands — were also installed here. In 2017, the park "stepped" to the other side of the river with the opening of Ronda del Occidente, confirming its status as one of the longest linear parks in Latin America.

\n\n

Interestingly, the park's architectural design has become a model for cities throughout Colombia. Mayors from many cities specifically visit to study Montería's experience in successfully integrating wildlife into urban infrastructure without damaging the tropical dry forest ecosystem.

Time Needed

To take a leisurely stroll through the main part of the park, visit the ecological zone, and take beautiful photos by the river, 2–4 hours is usually sufficient. This is enough time to enjoy the cool shade of the trees and, if you're lucky, observe local wildlife in their natural habitat.

\n\n

If you plan to explore all the extensions, including Ronda del Norte with its observation tower and the western part of the park, you should set aside half a day (4 to 6 hours). It is best to plan your visit for the early morning or the hours before sunset, when the heat subsides and the park is filled with soft light and a special atmosphere.

Working Hours

Ronda del Sinú Park is welcomingly open to visitors 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Thanks to this schedule, you can choose the most comfortable time for your visit: whether it's a morning workout in the fresh air or a late-night walk under the stars.

\n\n

Official hours confirm that the site is accessible 24 hours a day from Monday to Sunday. Nevertheless, the park remains most lively and safe during daylight hours and in the evening, when the cafes are open and the lighting along the main paths is turned on.
