National Zoological Park of Delhi is one of the oldest and largest zoological parks in India, located right next to the historic Old Fort. More than 1,300 animals and birds representing fauna from all over the world, including rare and endangered species, inhabit the vast green territory.
A unique feature of the park is its open-enclosure concept. There are almost no cramped cages here: animals are separated from visitors by dry or water-filled moats, camouflaged by shrubs and trees. This creates the illusion of the animals being in their natural habitat and allows for observation without visual barriers.
The zoo's territory in Delhi is cleverly zoned and represents a true landscape mosaic. Visitors can take a kind of trip around the world, moving between sectors dedicated to the fauna of Asia, Africa, America, and Australia.
Beyond its entertainment role, the facility plays a vital part as a nature conservation center. Active programs for breeding endangered species are conducted here, and educational displays introduce guests to the importance of our planet's biodiversity.
