Overview

The climate in Gurugram is characterized by significant seasonal variations, combining periods of intense heat and drought with a distinct monsoon season. Generally, there are three main seasons: a hot and predominantly dry summer, a humid monsoon period, and a mild, dry winter. This means that the weather can vary greatly depending on the time of your visit, offering both scorching days and periods with more moderate temperatures.

Summer in Gurugram, which lasts roughly from April to June, is marked by high temperatures. Average highs often exceed 36°C, reaching as high as 39°C in May. Rainfall during this period is minimal. From July to September, the monsoon arrives in the region. Temperatures remain high, averaging around 30-33°C, but this time is characterized by a significant increase in precipitation and rainy days—particularly in July and August. Autumn, spanning October and November, brings a gradual drop in temperature and a decrease in humidity, making the weather more comfortable.

Winter in Gurugram, from December to February, is mild and dry. Average daytime temperatures range between 13-17°C, though nights can be quite chilly, with minimum temperatures dropping to 7-9°C. Rainfall is extremely rare during the winter months. Therefore, when planning your trip, consider these climatic features: the hottest and driest period is April-June, the wettest is July-August, and the coolest, driest weather is typically observed from December to February.

During these months, despite slightly lower peak temperatures (32-34°C), the air feels very muggy. Diurnal temperature fluctuations in the summer months, especially before the monsoon begins, can be quite significant.

Packing Tips

When planning a trip to Gurugram, it is important to consider the significant fluctuations in temperature and rainfall throughout the year. During the hot period from April to June, when temperatures can reach 39°C, and continuing into the monsoon season (July-September), it is recommended to pack light, breathable clothing made from natural fabrics like cotton and linen. Don't forget sunscreen with a high SPF, a hat, and sunglasses. During the monsoon, especially in July and August when the number of rainy days can reach 20-22 per month, an umbrella or a light raincoat is essential, along with quick-drying clothes and water-resistant footwear.

During this time, you will need warm items: sweaters, light jackets, jumpers, and trousers, especially for evening and morning walks. Transition months like March (with an average temperature of about 23°C) and October-November (21-26°C) feature comfortably warm weather with minimal rainfall. Layering is the ideal approach here: T-shirts, light sweaters, and perhaps a thin jacket to easily adapt to temperature changes throughout the day. Regardless of the season, comfortable walking shoes are your best companion in Gurugram.
