On the outskirts of Hyderabad, one of India's technological and cultural hubs, stands a majestic monument—the Statue of Equality. This monument is dedicated to the outstanding 11th-century Indian philosopher and social reformer Ramanuja. Standing 66 meters tall, it is one of the world's tallest sitting statues and symbolizes the ideas of harmony, spirituality, and equality preached by the thinker.
The monument was inaugurated in 2022 to commemorate the millennium of Ramanuja's birth. It is cast from panchaloha—a special alloy of five sacred metals: gold, silver, copper, brass, and zinc. This material is traditionally used in India to create temple deities, giving the monument special cultural and religious value. The philosopher is depicted sitting on a lotus-shaped pedestal with his hands folded in a prayer gesture.
