What to Do

At the Gulbarga District Science Centre, a complete immersion into the world of discovery awaits you. Start your exploration with the "Fun Science" and "Popular Science" interactive galleries, where every exhibit can be touched, turned, and set in motion. These galleries clearly demonstrate the principles of optics, mechanics, and electronics, turning learning into an exciting process.

Visitors of all ages are especially delighted by the mirror maze, which creates amazing visual illusions, as well as specialized halls dedicated to mathematics and modern technology. Paleontology enthusiasts should definitely take a walk through the dinosaur park, where realistic figures of ancient lizards stand alongside informative displays about their life on Earth.

Don't miss the chance to visit the digital planetarium for stargazing or catch a session in the 3D theater, which screens immersive science documentaries. For the most active visitors, the centre regularly hosts science shows and demonstrations, while the outdoor science park features large-scale physics exhibits where you can study the laws of nature in the fresh air.

Getting There

Located in the scenic Municipal Garden, the Gulbarga District Science Centre is situated in the heart of the city on Tank Bund Road. This location is well known to locals, so finding it is quite easy.

For getting around the city, it is most convenient to use auto-rickshaws or taxis, which regularly ply the main streets. If you prefer public transport, city buses frequently stop near the Municipal Garden.

History & Facts

The grand opening of the District Science Centre in Kalaburagi took place on January 6, 1984. This event marked a significant step in the development of the region's educational infrastructure under the leadership of the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) of India. The initial exhibition, titled "Wealth of Kalaburagi," included 44 exhibits showcasing local potential and achievements.

The centre's development occurred within a unique historical context: the city once served as the capital of the powerful Bahmani Kingdom. Creating a modern scientific space among ancient monuments emphasized India's commitment to bridging its rich cultural heritage with future technological progress.

Over the decades, the centre has expanded significantly. In the 2010s, a digital planetarium was added, followed by a 3D theater and a dinosaur park. Since 1990, the centre has also operated a Mobile Science Exhibition—a specially equipped bus that brings knowledge to the most remote rural areas of Karnataka state.

Time Needed

To leisurely explore all the themed halls and participate in interactive experiments, visitors usually need about 3–4 hours. This is enough time to visit the main galleries, see the dinosaur park, and walk through the outdoor science park.

If you plan to watch a full-dome show in the planetarium or a film in the 3D theater, you should allow at least half a day for your visit. Programs and shows have fixed schedules, which are best checked immediately upon arrival at the centre.

Working Hours

The Gulbarga District Science Centre is open to curious guests daily from 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM. This schedule makes it easy to plan a visit on both weekdays and weekends.

Please note that the centre is open almost year-round, except for two major national holidays: Ganesh Chaturthi and Diwali. Nevertheless, it is recommended to check the official website before your trip to ensure there are no changes to the schedule or technical breaks.
