How to get to Dobo

Dobo is a vibrant port city and the administrative centre of the Aru Islands, located in the eastern part of Indonesia. Known for its historic pearl diving industry, this remote corner attracts travellers wishing to witness the authentic life of the archipelago and untouched tropical nature. Getting to the city of Dobo can be achieved via various routes, but the main journey usually involves a combination of air travel or a sea voyage.

The fastest way to reach the region is by air, as the city is served by its own airport, Dobo (DOB). Flights operate here regularly, most often from neighbouring transport hubs such as Langgur or Ambon.

The airport is located in close proximity to the city, making arrival convenient for tourists. Although the airport is small, it ensures a stable connection between the Aru Islands and the rest of the archipelago; however, it is advisable to check flight schedules in advance.

Railway services are completely absent on the Aru Islands, and there is no train station in the city of Dobo. The specific nature of the complex island terrain and the remoteness of the region make the laying of tracks impractical.

Even in the nearest major settlement, Langgur, trains do not run. Tourists travelling across Indonesia are recommended to choose flights or water transport to move between islands.
