In a scenic corner near the city of Douglas lies a unique charity sanctuary — the Home of Rest for Old Horses. Stretching across 92 acres of countryside on the Isle of Man, this place serves as a true safe haven for elderly, ill, and retired horses, ponies, and donkeys.

The facility is run entirely by volunteers and survives solely on donations. The sanctuary is particularly famous for being the "retirement home" for the legendary tram horses from the famous Douglas Horse Tramway when their working days come to an end.
Today, more than 60 animals are under the care of this registered charity. Visitors can not only see these noble creatures in a peaceful setting but also support the important cause of animal welfare while enjoying the tranquil atmosphere of Richmond Hill.
