Previously, this area was known as Dump Up Beach, but after a large-scale renovation, it was transformed into the city's main leisure hub. Here, you'll find not only the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea but also thoughtful landscape design using endemic Jamaican plants, which create a unique tropical garden atmosphere right on the coast.

The park is valued by tourists for its high level of security, cleanliness, and modern amenities, including Wi-Fi, changing rooms, and a CCTV system. It is the perfect place to feel the rhythm of the island's life while staying in comfortable and safe conditions.

What to Do

The main highlight here is, of course, a classic beach holiday. Visitors can rent umbrellas and comfortable sun loungers (costing about 500 JMD per item) to sunbathe in comfort. The calm waters of the bay are perfect for leisurely swimming, and the soft white sand invites you to walk barefoot along the water's edge.

For those who enjoy an active lifestyle, there is an excellent 600-meter jogging track and a multipurpose sports court for basketball. Children will love the modern playground, while the shady lawns and gazebos are perfect for family picnics. It's important to remember that alcohol and glass containers are prohibited on the grounds to maintain the park's cleanliness and safety.

If you get hungry, there are snack kiosks, ice cream parlors, and refreshment stands within the park. Be sure to check out the nearby Old Fort Market, where numerous stalls offer unique handmade souvenirs and a chance to discover local crafts. In the evening, the park promenade becomes the city's best spot for watching fantastic Caribbean sunsets.

Getting There

Reaching this slice of paradise is easy, as it is located on the famous Hip Strip, along Howard Cooke Boulevard. The drive from Sangster International Airport by car or taxi takes only 7–10 minutes, making the park an ideal first stop for newly arrived tourists.

If you are staying in downtown Montego Bay, you can reach the park on foot or by local minibus. For those who prefer private transport, there is a secure parking lot with 132 spaces (costing about 200 JMD per hour). If the main parking is full, visitors often use the parking at KFC across the street, combining it with a quick snack.

For cruise travelers arriving at the Port of Falmouth, special group transfers and excursions are organized, including a visit to this beach area. Upon entry, be prepared for a brief bag check by security staff — a standard procedure to ensure the safety of visitors.

History & Facts

Before its massive transformation, the area now occupied by Harmony Beach Park was known to locals as Dump Up Beach. The renovation project, costing 1.3 billion Jamaican dollars, was implemented by the Urban Development Corporation (UDC) to turn a neglected area into a world-class flagship public space.

The grand opening of the renovated park took place on May 21, 2021, with the participation of the country's Prime Minister, Andrew Holness. This event marked the beginning of a new chapter in the development of the southern part of the Hip Strip tourist district, creating a harmonious blend of natural beauty and modern infrastructure.

Special attention was paid to ecology during the park's creation: landscape designers integrated endemic Jamaican plants into the space, striving to preserve the island's authentic flora as much as possible. Today, it is more than just a beach; it is a cultural hub demonstrating the city's commitment to sustainable development and citizen comfort.

Interestingly, located right next to the modern park is the historic Old Fort, built back in 1760. This proximity allows tourists to transition from a high-tech relaxation space to the island's colonial past in just a few minutes.

Time Needed

If you just want to walk around and enjoy the sea breeze, an hour might be enough; however, most visitors prefer to spend 2 to 4 hours here. This is enough time to swim, sunbathe, and have a small picnic on one of the green lawns.

Families with children planning to use the playground and engage in active recreation should allocate half a day for their visit. Given the availability of showers and cafes on-site, you can comfortably spend a long time here without leaving the park until sunset.

Working Hours

The park welcomes guests daily, following a convenient schedule that allows you to enjoy both the morning freshness and the evening cool. Official opening hours are:

  • Monday — Sunday: 06:00 – 22:00

Please note that access to the beach area itself or the operation of sports courts may have internal regulations and sometimes end slightly earlier than the main park entrance closing.
