Katsuren Castle rises majestically on a hill approximately 98 meters above sea level at the base of the Katsuren Peninsula. This site in Uruma City (on Okinawa) not only served as a strategic point in ancient times but today offers visitors breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes and the ocean. A walk along its ancient walls allows you to feel the breath of history and enjoy the beauty of nature.
Katsuren was not just an impregnable fortress but also an important religious center where sacred rituals of the ancient Ryukyuan religion were performed. In particular, the first inner courtyard of the castle was dedicated to Kobudzukasa—a revered deity or spirit in the local culture. This combination of military power and spiritual significance makes the Katsuren Castle Ruins a truly unique place to explore the rich heritage of the Ryukyu Kingdom and uncover its secrets.
