The museum building itself is a work of modern architectural art. It is strikingly elevated on columns, and its facade is decorated with an intricate green metal structure symbolizing the lush foliage of the sacred Ceiba Tree of Life, which plays a central role in Maya cosmology. The interior space continues this metaphor: a spiral staircase is associated with the tree trunk, while the basement levels represent its roots extending deep into the earth.
The museum covers a vast area of over 3,000 square meters. It houses spacious exhibition halls featuring more than 1,600 unique exhibits spanning various eras—from the prehistoric period to modern times. In addition to the main displays, the museum features a children's center, a cozy terrace, research laboratories, as well as the modern 300-seat MAYAMAX cinema and an additional exhibition hall. For the convenience of visitors, parking for 260 cars is provided.
