Interestingly, during the construction, engineers avoided using temporary supports in the riverbed. This was done specifically to eliminate the risk of polluting the Waiwhakaiho waters and to keep the ecosystem in its pristine state. Today, the bridge is considered not just an engineering achievement, but also a symbol of harmony between modern art and ancient cultural heritage.

While crossing the river and appreciating its elegant curves only takes about 15 minutes, most travelers stay much longer, trying to catch that perfect shot where Mount Taranaki is perfectly centered within the steel arch.
