General Weather Overview

For travellers, Bongao reveals itself as a destination with a classic tropical climate, where it is warm and humid throughout the year. The temperature regime here is remarkably stable: average figures fluctuate within a narrow range from +26 °C to +28 °C, so the concept of changing seasons in the traditional sense is practically non-existent here. This destination is excellent for those who appreciate warmth, as the air is always pleasant, and sudden cold spells do not occur.

An important feature of the local weather is the high probability of rainfall in any month. Even during the "driest" period, which falls in February and March, rains can occur for about half the month, and by the end of the year, especially in December, the number of wet days reaches a maximum. However, tropical rains are often short-lived, quickly replaced by sunshine, allowing for comfortable holiday planning in the Philippines if one is prepared for weather changes.

Temperature

Analysis of meteorological observations shows that the peak warmth in Bongao occurs in May. During this month, average temperature indicators reach their annual maximum — around +27.9°C, and in the daytime hours, the air warms up to +28.9°C. This time is characterized by the most pronounced tropical heat, although even during this period, extreme fluctuations are not observed.

The lowest values are recorded in January and February, although the concept of "cold" here is quite relative: the average temperature drops only to +26.8°C. A characteristic feature of the local climate is the minimal daily temperature variation. The difference between night and day readings is extremely small, so even on the coolest nights of February, the thermometer shows around +26.0°C, guaranteeing comfort at any time of the day.

Rainfall

In the city of Bongao, as in many tropical corners of the archipelago, precipitation falls quite regularly throughout the year. It is difficult to distinguish a sharply defined dry season, as rains are a habitual part of the local climate. However, despite the large number of rainy days, the total volume of precipitation remains at a surprisingly low level, indicating that rains here are most often short-lived and not too intense.

The most favourable time for a trip in terms of weather can be considered the period from February to April. During these months, the least amount of rainfall is recorded (on average about 3 mm), and the number of rainy days decreases to 15–18 per month. This time is excellent for walks and sightseeing, as the sky more often delights with sunny spells, and light drizzle does not cause serious inconvenience.

The second half of the year, and especially December, is characterized by more frequent rainfall. December is the wettest month: rains can occur up to 28 days, and rainfall levels reach their annual peak, although they remain modest (about 7 mm). From May to November, the number of wet days is also high (from 23 to 26 days), so tourists travelling to the Philippines at this time are recommended to always carry a light raincoat or umbrella.

What to Pack

When planning a journey to Bongao, one should prepare for the consistently warm and humid weather characteristic of this region year-round. The air temperature here practically does not change, staying in a comfortable range from +26°C to +29°C, so the basis of your wardrobe should be light summer clothing made from natural breathable fabrics, such as cotton or linen. T-shirts, shorts, and loose-fitting shirts will ensure comfort in the tropical climate, while a head covering and sunglasses will protect against the bright sun.

Special attention should be paid to protection from moisture, as the number of days with precipitation is high throughout the year (from 15 to 28 days per month). Even if the rains are short-lived, having a compact umbrella or a light rain poncho will be very useful, especially in the period from October to January. As for footwear, it is better to choose comfortable sandals or quick-drying sneakers suitable for long walks. Do not forget swimming essentials, sunscreen with a high SPF factor, and insect repellents.
