The climate in Galkayo can be characterised as hot and arid, typical of desert regions. A slight increase in the number of wet days is observed in April-May and October-November, yet the total volume of rainfall remains extremely low. This makes Galkayo a place where the sun shines almost all year round, and the likelihood of getting caught in a prolonged downpour is minimised.

When preparing for Galkayo, plan for the hot climate that reigns here year-round. The foundation of your luggage should be loose-fitting clothing made of light natural fabrics, such as cotton or linen, in light colours to reflect the sun's rays. Since daytime temperatures often exceed +30°C, be sure to bring a wide-brimmed hat, high-quality sunglasses, and cream with a high SPF protection factor to shield yourself from the active sun.

Although rainfall in the region is extremely low, overcast days with light rains are possible in April, May, October, and November. If your trip falls during these months, it is worth bringing a compact umbrella or a light raincoat. Also, consider the daily temperature fluctuations: in the evenings and at night, the thermometer can drop to +20°C, so a light windbreaker, cardigan, or long-sleeved shirt will come in handy for comfortable walks after sunset.
