The opening coincided with the launch of Spain's first high-speed railway line (AVE) Madrid — Seville and the hosting of the Expo 92 World Fair.
Santa Justa replaced two old historic stations in Seville — Plaza de Armas and San Bernardo, consolidating transport flows in one location.
