General Weather Overview

The climate in Augusta can be characterized as humid subtropical, with distinct seasons. The city offers hot and fairly humid summers, mild winters, and pleasant transitional periods – spring and autumn. Tourists should expect significant temperature fluctuations throughout the year, allowing them to choose the optimal time for a trip depending on weather preferences.

The summer months, especially July and August, are the hottest: the average air temperature hovers around 27-28°C, and maximum values can exceed 32°C. This period also sees the highest number of days with precipitation, although the total monthly rainfall remains small (3-4 mm). Winters in Augusta are mild, with the average temperature in January being approximately 9.4°C. Spring and autumn delight with comfortable weather and moderate temperatures, ideal for walking and exploring the city. The driest month, both in terms of rainfall amount and the number of rainy days, is October.

Temperature

Augusta experiences a distinct change of seasons with warm, and sometimes hot, summers and mild winters. The annual temperature range is quite wide: the coldest month, January, has an average temperature of 9.4°C, with minimums around 4.6°C, while the hottest month, July, warms up to an average of 28.1°C, with daytime highs reaching 32.8°C. August is also very warm, with average figures only slightly lower than July.

Summer months, especially June, July, and August, are characterized by high temperatures. During the day, the thermometer regularly rises above 30-32°C, and nights remain warm, with minimum temperatures usually around 21-23°C. This creates conditions for hot, and at times sultry, weather. Winter in Augusta, on the other hand, is quite mild. Average temperatures in December and January hover around 9-11°C. Nighttime temperatures can drop to 4-6°C, but severe frosts are rare. Daytime temperatures in winter usually fluctuate between 14-15°C, and February already brings noticeable warming with an average temperature of 12.7°C.

Throughout the year, noticeable diurnal temperature fluctuations are observed in Augusta. The difference between average maximum and minimum temperatures in most months is about 9-12°C. This means that even in warm seasons, evenings can bring noticeable coolness after a hot day. Spring months (March, April, May) show a gradual rise in temperatures from an average of 15.2°C in March to 23.3°C in May. In autumn (September, October, November), there is a gradual cooling: from a comfortable 25.2°C in September to 14.1°C in November, while October, with an average temperature of 20.3°C, often delights with pleasant weather.

Precipitation

In the city of Augusta, precipitation is observed throughout the year, although its intensity and frequency vary noticeably. There is no pronounced season of torrential rains, but periods with more frequent and, conversely, rarer precipitation can be distinguished. Overall, the monthly amount of precipitation is small, indicating a predominantly light or moderate character of rains.

The highest probability of encountering rain falls on the summer months. July stands out as the wettest month in terms of precipitation frequency, counting on average 18 rainy days, followed by August with approximately 16 days. During these months, as well as in February and December, the maximum monthly rainfall for Augusta falls – about 4 mm. Given the moderate temperatures even in winter, all precipitation falls mainly in the form of rain.

The driest period in Augusta is considered to be October. This month sees the least amount of precipitation, only about 2 mm, and the minimum number of rainy days is recorded – on average 6. Other months, such as April, September, and November, are also characterized by fewer days with precipitation (from 8 to 9 days) compared to the peak in the middle of summer.

What to Pack

When planning a trip to Augusta, it is important to consider the changeable weather throughout the year so that your wardrobe is as comfortable as possible. Regardless of the season, comfortable walking shoes will be your best companion, as you will surely want to explore the city. The principle of layering in clothing will also be very useful, allowing you to easily adapt to temperature fluctuations during the day.

In the warm months, from approximately May to September, when the average temperature ranges from 23°C to 28°C and the maximum can exceed 30°C, preference should be given to light and breathable clothing made from natural fabrics. T-shirts, shorts, sundresses, as well as a hat and sunglasses will be very relevant. Despite the small amount of precipitation in millimetres, the summer months (especially July and August) see the highest number of days with precipitation, so a light umbrella or a compact raincoat will not be out of place for protection against possible short-term rain. Do not forget sunscreen as well.

From October to April, the weather in Augusta becomes cooler, with average temperatures from 9°C to 20°C, and minimums can drop to 4-6°C in January and December. During this period, you will need warmer items: sweaters, fleece jackets, jeans, or thick trousers. It is recommended to take a mid-season jacket, and in the winter months, perhaps a warmer coat or insulated jacket, especially if you are sensitive to the cold. Although the amount of precipitation remains low, the presence of rainy days (on average 8-11 per month) makes an umbrella or waterproof jacket a useful addition to your luggage.
