What to Do

At Classic Bowling Lanes, everyone will find something to enjoy. The main attraction, of course, is bowling. You can simply rent a lane for a family competition or join one of the weekly leagues if you’re feeling competitive. A special atmosphere is provided by Cosmic Bowling—a game with neon lights and energetic music that takes place on Thursdays and Fridays after 10:00 PM.

For those looking to diversify their leisure time, the center features a video arcade zone with both classic and modern games. You can also play a round of billiards or test your reaction speed at the air hockey table. It’s a real paradise for children, while adults can feel like teenagers again surrounded by the bright lights of the arcade machines.

If you get hungry while playing, the local restaurant offers a wide selection of food and drinks. This makes the venue a full-fledged space for hosting long events. Many people in Bloomington choose this center for organizing corporate parties or birthdays, taking advantage of special group packages and discounts.

History & Facts

The history of Classic Bowling Lanes began back in 1963. The establishment was founded by Margie and Carl Terpenning. Initially, the center hospitably welcomed bowlers in another building located right across the street from its current location on Willis Drive.

A significant turning point in its history occurred in 1985, when the venue moved to a new, specially designed building. An interesting architectural fact: it was originally planned to house 40 lanes, but during construction, it was discovered that very hard bedrock lay beneath the site. Because of this, they had to limit it to 32 lanes, which faithfully serve guests to this day.

A new chapter for the center began in 2002 when it was acquired by Jeff and Jennifer Chamness. For them, owning a bowling center was not just a business, but the realization of a long-held dream and a sincere passion for the sport. The new owners invested significant effort and resources into updating the interior and technical equipment of the lanes, striving to maintain the same cozy and friendly atmosphere that the city's residents love this place for.

Over more than 60 years of existence, Classic Lanes has transformed from a simple sports facility into a true social hub. Several generations of players have grown up here, and its loyalty to the traditions of a family business makes this center an important part of Bloomington's history.

Time Needed

To fully enjoy the atmosphere of Classic Bowling Lanes, the average visitor is recommended to set aside about 2–3 hours for their visit. This is quite enough time for one or two full games of bowling and a short break in the arcade area.

If you plan to visit with a large group, celebrate a birthday, or participate in one of the special evening events, your stay may extend to 4 hours or more. The center provides all the conditions for guests to have a leisurely snack and socialize between games, making it easy to spend an entire evening here.
