One of the most colorful attractions on the grounds is the historic blacksmith shop. Originally, it was a cabin built by the sons of Daniel Wood in 1870. Later, Joseph Cotton Wood used it as a workshop where he invented numerous agricultural tools, including the first plow in Davis County to win a gold medal. The city's Historical Commission carefully moved this building to the park to preserve the memory of the region's industrious past.

Interestingly, in the 1920s, the area around the future park became famous nationwide for growing a special variety of onion called Yellow Sweet Spanish. The produce was shipped by train across America, which is why one of the adjacent streets is still named Onion Street. The park itself began to develop actively in the late 20th century, and in 1988, the first large playground was established here.
