The history of this unique educational space began in 1995. A group of educators and museum experts in the USA joined forces to create the "learning through touch" concept, which would perfectly complement the school curriculum and spark children's sincere interest in the past.

The 50,000-square-foot building was officially opened in December 1998. Interestingly, the project was originally conceived under the name Center for Southern Life, but by the time of opening, a more dynamic and resonant name was chosen — EarlyWorks Children's Museum. Construction was made possible through a combination of federal grants, support from the state of Alabama, and private donations.

The museum has constantly evolved: in 2000, a special zone for the youngest visitors — "Biscuit’s Backyard" — was opened. Today, this place is considered one of the leading children's history museums in the entire South, hosting thousands of school field trips and family tourists annually.

To ensure children have enough time to play to their heart's content, explore all the hidden corners, and participate in interactive programs, we recommend setting aside 2 to 3 hours for your visit. This is the optimal amount of time that will allow you not to rush and to fully immerse yourself in the atmosphere of each exhibit.

If you plan to visit temporary exhibitions or take part in one of the special workshops, your stay may be longer. Families with small children often stay longer in the "Biscuit’s Backyard" play area, where toddlers can safely explore the world at their own pace.

The museum is open to visitors from Tuesday to Sunday, offering convenient times for family visits. Please note that the facility is closed on Mondays.

The working hours are as follows: from Tuesday to Saturday, the doors are open from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. On Sunday, the museum opens a bit later — from 11:00 AM — and welcomes guests until 4:00 PM. It is recommended to arrive at least an hour and a half before closing to have time to see the main exhibits.
