The interior of Green Lady Lounge is meticulously styled after the 1940s era. Dim lighting, deep red tones in the wall décor and draperies, and classic paintings create a special, intimate mood. Notably, the club's owner, John Scott, deliberately chose not to install televisions so that nothing would distract visitors from the main attraction—the music, live conversation, and the unique ambiance of the venue.

Green Lady Lounge offers its guests a cozy space with a long bar, comfortable banquettes, and a stage located right in the center of the room, allowing musicians to be closer to the audience. The menu features an excellent selection of classic and signature cocktails, as well as craft beer. This makes Green Lady Lounge a wonderful place to enjoy quality music and have a pleasant end to your evening in Kansas City.

History & Facts

The history of Green Lady Lounge began in mid-December 2012 when John Scott opened the doors of this establishment. The club is located at 1809 Grand, in a space formerly occupied by Balanca's—a place with a complex history. In 2010, an incident occurred there that had tragic consequences. However, with the arrival of Green Lady Lounge, this space found a completely new life, becoming a magnet for jazz lovers.

John Scott, the club's founder, turned his attention to downtown Kansas City after considering several space options. His choice fell on the building at 1809 Grand. Help in securing the deal with the building's owner, Burrows, was provided by Sheri Parr, the owner of another well-known establishment, The Brick. This is how Green Lady Lounge was born, becoming an iconic spot on the city's musical map.

From the beginning, John Scott adhered to a specific concept: he did not plan to charge a cover fee, though he allowed for the possibility for certain performances. His long-term goal was to host live music nights six times a week. Thanks to this strategy and high-quality music, Green Lady Lounge very quickly gained recognition and became an integral part of the Kansas City jazz scene, continuing and developing the city's rich musical traditions.
