What to Do

The main draw for visitors is, without a doubt, beach relaxation in the lagoons. The crystal-clear water is perfect for those who enjoy calm swimming or want to try snorkeling. Children can safely play in the shallow water while adults enjoy sunbathing on the manicured green lawns surrounding the sandy shores.

For fans of an active lifestyle, the resort offers a huge choice of activities. You can head out on a boat trip from the local marina, go paddleboarding, play tennis on professional courts, or spend the morning on the famous Ko Olina Golf Club course. In the evening, it's worth visiting one of the spas, such as the Naupaka Spa, to rejuvenate with traditional Hawaiian treatments.

The culinary experiences here are equally impressive: from the freshest seafood in seaside restaurants to exotic Pan-Asian cuisine. Don't forget to stop by the Ko Olina Station shopping centers for some retail therapy or simply stroll through the grounds to enjoy the festive atmosphere, as world-class music festivals and food shows are often held here.

Getting There

Getting to this piece of paradise on the island of Oahu is easy. Ko Olina Resort is located approximately 32 kilometers from Honolulu International Airport (HNL). A drive west on the H-1 highway usually takes 35 to 45 minutes, depending on traffic conditions.

The most convenient way to get around is by renting a car, which gives you the freedom to explore other parts of the island. You can also take a taxi from the airport and central areas, use popular ride-sharing services, or book a specialized shuttle offered by many of the resort's hotels.

For those who prefer public transport, there is TheBus network. You will need to take a bus to the Kapolei Transit Center and cover the remaining part of the journey (about 10–15 minutes) by taxi or local transfer.

History & Facts

The lands where the resort stands today are steeped in history and legend. In ancient times, Ko Olina was part of extensive royal holdings stretching from Pearl Harbor to the Waiʻanae Range. This place was considered sacred and served as a retreat for Hawaiian chiefs. Kamehameha the Great and his wife Kaʻahumanu themselves loved to bathe in these reef-protected bays and conduct important ceremonies here.

In the 1930s, this secluded coastline enchanted Alice Kamokilaikawai Campbell, who named her estate Lanikuhonua, which means "where the heavens meet the earth." During the years of World War II, she showed great generosity by providing her property for the rest and recovery of American Army and Navy service members.

The modern history of the resort began in the 1980s thanks to an ambitious project by developer Herbert Horita. It was then that the famous man-made lagoons, marina, and golf courses were designed and created. Despite a temporary halt in construction in the 90s, the project found a second wind in 1998, transforming into one of the most prestigious tourist clusters in the USA.

Time Needed

When planning a visit to Ko Olina Resort, you should consider your goals. If you just want to stroll along the picturesque lagoons, take beautiful photos, and have lunch at one of the seaside restaurants, this will take about 4–6 hours. This time is quite enough to soak in the atmosphere of serenity and luxury.

For those who plan on an active holiday—playing golf, visiting the spa, or participating in water sports—it's better to reserve a full day. Many travelers prefer to stay here for several days to fully enjoy the exclusive service and the relaxed pace of life on Oahu's west coast.

Working Hours

The Ko Olina Resort area is open to visitors around the clock. The main grounds, beaches, and walking paths are accessible to guests 24 hours a day, seven days a week, allowing you to enjoy both sunrises and moonlit walks by the ocean.

It's important to keep in mind that individual facilities, such as restaurants, shops, the golf club, and spas, operate on their own individual schedules. Most establishments open early in the morning and close late in the evening, ensuring comfort for visitors throughout the day.
