MANA Cruises + Charters

About

MANA Cruises + Charters is a unique project founded by Native Hawaiians to show guests visiting the USA the true majesty of the Pacific Ocean. Based in the resort area of Kapolei, the company offers more than just boat rentals; it provides a complete immersion into the concept of "mana" — the mystical energy that permeates all life on the islands.

The service stands out for its focus on privacy and sustainability. Instead of crowded multi-deck ships, you will find intimate vessels accommodating a maximum of 6 passengers. This minimizes the impact on the fragile marine ecosystem and ensures each guest receives personalized attention from a crew whose captains have extensive experience navigating local waters.

Operating from the picturesque Ko Olina and Ala Wai marinas, the company promotes sustainable tourism principles. Travelers appreciate MANA Cruises for the chance to see Hawaii through the eyes of those born here, combining the modern comfort of luxury yachts with deep respect for ancient maritime traditions.

What to Do

On board, a rich program awaits, with marine life taking center stage. One of the most popular activities is snorkeling at the Ko Olina coral reefs, where tropical fish and sea turtles can be found in crystal-clear waters. The organizers are environmentally conscious, providing guests with reef-safe, biodegradable Kōkua Sun Care sunscreen.

The culinary side of the cruises is also noteworthy. MANA Cruises collaborates with top local establishments, such as Honolulu Coffee and Margotto Hawaii, to offer guests exquisite signature lunches and dinners. Upon request, a personal chef can be brought on board to prepare local dishes right before your eyes.

For a touch of romance, the sunset tours are an ideal choice. Watching the sun dip into the ocean is accompanied by drinks and appetizers in a peaceful atmosphere. All tableware on board is reusable, and some of the ship's systems are solar-powered, allowing guests to enjoy their trip knowing they are minimizing their environmental footprint.

Getting There

The most convenient way to reach the departure point in Kapolei is by car. The Ko Olina Marina, where the vessels are based, is located right off the H-1 highway. Follow the signs for the Ko Olina exit and use the available parking upon arrival.

If you prefer public transport, you can use TheBus network. Routes #40 and #93 run from Honolulu and Waikiki, stopping near the marina. A taxi or rideshare from Honolulu International Airport (HNL) takes approximately 25–30 minutes, making it the most comfortable option for travelers with luggage.

History & Facts

The story of this maritime project began in March 2017. It was founded by Native Hawaiians who sought to create a business that would not only be successful but also share the spirit of "mana" with the world — a special spiritual power that, according to local beliefs, fills the ocean and the islands.

In 2021, the Hilina’i Charters team joined the project, leading to a collaboration and an official rebranding as MANA Cruises + Charters in August 2022. This partnership allowed the fleet to expand and offer guests an even higher level of service while maintaining a family atmosphere and a commitment to tradition.

A notable milestone was the company's seventh anniversary in 2024. The celebration included a traditional Hawaiian blessing of the vessels, conducted by Kahu Kawika Kahiapo. The ritual, featuring sacred lei and a group sail near the reefs, emphasized the crew's deep connection to the nature of the islands.

Time Needed

To fully experience the magic of the ocean, it is recommended to set aside 4 to 6 hours for this adventure. A typical cruise includes not only the time spent sailing but also a mandatory safety briefing, snorkeling sessions, and a leisurely tasting of on-board meals.

If you are planning a large event or want to explore more remote parts of the coastline, consider full-day tours, which can last up to 8 hours. This is the perfect option for those who want to take their time and enjoy the sunset right from the open sea.

Working Hours

You can set out on a sea voyage any day, as the company operates daily. Standard hours for inquiries and tours are from 08:00 to 17:00.

However, departure times can vary depending on the specific cruise type, such as evening sunset sails. It is recommended to check the schedule on the official website in advance or contact a manager to confirm the start time for your charter.
