History & Facts

The history of the building housing the Courthouse Pub dates back to around 1885. It was originally home to Frank Willinger’s beer hall, where classic lagers from local brands were served. The spirit of that era still lives within its walls: in the bar, you can see an archival photograph from the 1890s capturing the interior of that time.

During the challenging times of Prohibition (1920–1933), the establishment became the Court Café. It was then that a south wing was added to the building, giving it its characteristic L-shape that remains today. Later, in the late 1930s, the place became known as Pekel's Colonial Inn. During that period, guests were entertained with live music played on an electronic organ.

The modern chapter began in 2001, when John Jagemann purchased the building and performed a complete renovation. Despite the extensive work, the historic look was preserved, utilizing the famous cream city brick. Since 2018, the pub has been managed by Brock and Ryan, former employees who carefully maintain the traditions and welcoming atmosphere of this unique spot.

To fully enjoy your visit to the Courthouse Pub, we recommend setting aside 1.5 to 2.5 hours. This will be enough time for a leisurely lunch or dinner, as well as for tasting several varieties of the signature craft beer.
