Current Weather

Planning a trip to San Felipe? In this section, you will find the most up-to-date weather information and detailed forecasts to help you perfectly plan every day of your stay in Venezuela.

Overview

San Felipe, the capital of Yaracuy State, is characterized by a classic tropical climate with distinct dry and wet seasons. Throughout the year, the weather remains consistently warm and fairly muggy, typical for the northern regions of Venezuela.

The main feature of the local climate is high humidity and significant cloud cover, which persists even during relatively dry periods. Travelers should expect short but intense heat at the beginning of the year and milder but rainier months for the rest of the time, when the region's nature literally blossoms under the influence of rainfall.

Temperature

Temperatures in San Felipe remain fairly steady throughout the year, ranging from +22°C to +32°C. The hottest days occur during the dry season from December to April. During this time, daytime highs consistently reach +30...+32°C, while nights bring pleasant coolness with temperatures around +21°C.

During the rainy season, which covers most of the year in this part of Venezuela, cloud cover slightly moderates daytime heating, so the thermometer more often stays between +25...+29°C. Despite the lack of sharp cold snaps, high humidity can intensify the feeling of heat, creating a "sauna" effect during the day.

For those who enjoy water activities, the stable water temperature in nearby bodies of water is a pleasant bonus. It warms up to a comfortable +26...+28°C in the dry season, remaining suitable for swimming even in cloudier months when the water temperature only slightly drops to +24°C.

Precipitation

The rainfall pattern in San Felipe clearly divides the year into two periods. The dry season lasts from December to April, when rainfall is minimal (less than 50 mm per month) and the sky is pleasingly clear. January and February are considered the most favorable months for those who prefer clear weather without excessive humidity.

The wet season starts in May and reaches its peak in October and November. During this period, Venezuela experiences a series of tropical downpours, and monthly rainfall can exceed 200–300 mm. Rains are often heavy and frequent—up to 25 rainy days per month—however, they rarely last all day, alternating with periods of humid sunshine.

It is important to note that due to its tropical location, snow is completely absent here. Even during the wettest periods, precipitation falls exclusively in the form of warm downpours, which bring temporary relief from the mugginess but quickly increase the humidity levels in the city.

Packing Tips

For a trip to San Felipe in any season, the basis of your wardrobe should be lightweight clothing made from natural fabrics, such as cotton or linen. If you are planning a visit between December and April, be sure to bring sunglasses, a hat, and sunscreen with a high SPF to protect yourself from the intense tropical sun.

During the wet season (May–November) in Venezuela, you won't want to be without a compact umbrella or a light raincoat, as well as quick-drying shoes with good grip. Regardless of the month of your trip, we recommend bringing insect repellent and a light sweater or windbreaker—they will come in handy for evening walks when the temperature drops slightly or for protection from air conditioning indoors.
