Alternatively, you may consider flying to neighbouring cities if direct flights are unavailable. The nearest airport is located in the city of In Amenas (a distance of about 201 km), and slightly further away is the airport in the oasis of Djanet (239 km). When choosing these options, be prepared to continue your journey via ground transport.

Currently, it is not possible to reach Illizi by train, as there is no railway infrastructure in the city or its vicinity. The challenging terrain and the vast distances of the Sahara Desert make the construction of tracks in this region an extremely difficult undertaking.

For those ready for serious expeditions, there is a road from the city of Tamanrasset. However, it is worth noting that this path, over 824 km long, will require about 17.5 hours of continuous driving, so it is recommended to carefully plan stops and fuel reserves. Taxis for such distances can be expensive, so many prefer to hire a 4x4 SUV with a driver.

A trip to Illizi is an immersion into a unique desert environment, requiring specific preparation and respect for local traditions. To ensure your journey is comfortable and safe, please pay attention to the following recommendations.

1. Clothing and Climate. It can be very hot in the desert during the day, while nights are cool. Bring light, modest clothing made of natural fabrics (cotton, linen) to protect yourself from the sun, as well as a warm fleece jacket for the evenings. A head covering and sunglasses are mandatory.
2. Transport. To move around the vicinity and for trips into the desert, it is best to hire a 4x4 SUV with an experienced local driver. Public transport within the city is not well developed.
3. Finances. Always carry a supply of cash (Algerian Dinars). ATMs may not work or accept foreign cards, and payment terminals in shops are a rarity.
4. Health. Drink only bottled water and always keep a supply with you to avoid dehydration. Assemble a first aid kit with remedies for stomach upsets, sunburn, and insect bites.
5. Connectivity and Language. The official language is Arabic; French is also widely spoken. English is not known by everyone, so download an offline translator. Mobile signal may be lost outside the city.
