The Historical Basilica of Our Lady of Aparecida, also known as the "Old Basilica," is a significant Catholic temple located in the city of Aparecida, in the heart of Brazil. This stone temple, designed in an elegant Baroque style, was built in 1888 on the site of a small 1745 chapel. Since its founding, the basilica has been a center for mass pilgrimage, attracting believers and tourists with its architectural beauty and deep religious significance.
The name "Old Basilica" was given to the temple after the construction of the new, even more grand National Sanctuary of Our Lady of Aparecida between 1955 and 1980. This was done to distinguish the original church from its monumental successor. Today, both basilicas are key spiritual centers for the city and the entire country, drawing millions of pilgrims every year.

The basilica's interior is no less impressive than its exterior. The walls are decorated with paintings depicting miracles attributed to Our Lady of Aparecida, and intricate cedar carvings can be seen in the niches. The altar and altar wall are made of Carrara marble in a neoclassical style, adding a sense of solemnity to the decor. The temple's significance is so great that in 1928, the city of Aparecida was officially founded around it.
