Travelling by rail is not a suitable option for a trip to Coari. Railway infrastructure is completely absent in the city and its surroundings, which is characteristic of most of the Amazonas state, where dense jungles and high-water rivers make laying tracks extremely difficult.

The nearest major settlements, such as Manaus, Tefé, and Manicoré, also lack passenger rail connections. Therefore, tourists planning a visit to this region of Brazil should focus on flights or scenic river cruises.

Due to the geographical features of the Amazon region and the lack of connecting highways, it is impossible to reach Coari by intercity bus. The city is surrounded by impenetrable jungles and rivers, so direct land routes from neighbouring settlements, such as Tefé or Manicoré, simply do not exist.

The bus network in this part of Brazil is developed only locally, within cities, and is used for transfers to ports or airports. For example, travellers can take a bus to the river terminal in Manaus, but the subsequent journey of about 360–400 kilometres to the destination must be covered exclusively by water or air transport.

When planning a trip to Coari by private vehicle, it is important to note that this city deep in Brazil is not connected to the national road network, so travel is only possible using cargo river ferries. The most popular route is from Manaus: the distance along the winding river channel is about 450 kilometres, and transporting a car on a barge upstream takes an average of three days.

The journey from the city of Tefé, located upstream, is significantly shorter and covers about 200 kilometres, which the vessel traverses downstream in 15–20 hours. A trip from Manicoré would be a true expedition, as due to the lack of direct roads and river lines, the complex route would require transit through Manaus, stretching over 5–7 days of travel.
