Occupying an area of over 104,000 square meters, it serves as the "lungs" of the Jardim Alvorada neighborhood in sunny Brazil. What to Do

At Buracão Park, everyone will find something to their liking, whether it's an active workout or quiet contemplation of nature. For sports enthusiasts, there are excellent running and walking paths: the upper route is about 1 km long, while the lower one, running along the water's edge, is 800 meters. There are also ATI outdoor gym facilities available for anyone looking to stay fit in the fresh air.

Families with children should definitely visit the modern “Meu Campinho” play area and the playgrounds, which have been recently renovated. One of the main draws for tourists is the Show das Águas Dançantes — a mesmerizing dancing fountain show. Synchronized jets of water set to music and colorful lights create a festive atmosphere, especially during city festivals.

The park is also perfect for leisurely picnics on the grass and walks with pets. Although swimming in the lake is prohibited, you can enjoy the view of the waterfall from the ecological trails or attend cultural events frequently held on the local stage. Don't forget to bring your camera to capture the park in the rays of the setting sun — this is considered the most beautiful time here.

History & Facts

The history of this area dates back to the middle of the last century when the land belonged to the Fazenda Maringá farm. The owner of the plot was a Swiss immigrant named Alfredo Werner Nyffeler, who settled in Brazil in 1923. In the 1940s, the site housed extensive coffee plantations, which formed the backbone of the regional economy at that time.

After the agricultural era ended, the site fell into neglect for a while and was even used as a landfill. However, the unique natural landscape, with a river source forming a waterfall and a lake, prevented the place from disappearing. It was because of the characteristic deep depression in the landscape that the park earned the nickname “Buracão” (big hole).

In October 1988, after extensive cleaning and landscaping work, the park was officially opened as a public space. Today, it stands as a shining example of Maringá's urban planning philosophy, aimed at preserving green zones and creating a comfortable environment for residents and visitors alike.

Time Needed

For a leisurely exploration of Buracão Park, most visitors find 1–2 hours to be sufficient. This is plenty of time to walk around the lake, take beautiful photos of the waterfall, and enjoy the peace and quiet in the shade of the trees. If you plan to have a full picnic on the grass, you should budget about half a day for your visit.

Special attention should be given to an evening visit. The famous light show, Show das Águas Dançantes, usually begins around 8:00 PM and lasts between 20 and 30 minutes. If your goal is to see this performance, we recommend arriving half an hour before it starts to secure a comfortable spot on the lakeshore and enjoy the atmosphere of the park at sunset.

Working Hours

Buracão Park is hospitably open to visitors daily, making it easy to include in your travel itinerary any day of the week. The official operating hours are:
