The climate in Venecia, located in the picturesque province of Alajuela, is classified as tropical with distinct dry and wet seasons. In this part of Costa Rica, the weather remains remarkably stable throughout the year, offering tourists comfortable warmth and an abundance of tropical greenery.

The dry season lasts from December to May, delighting travelers with plenty of sunshine and low humidity, making walks and excursions highly enjoyable. From May to November comes the rainy season—the so-called "green season"—when nature comes to life, and brief but powerful downpours bring pleasant freshness after the midday heat.

Despite the change of seasons, temperatures in the region remain virtually unchanged, allowing for a visit at any time of year. The town is considered one of the most welcoming corners of the northern region, where even during the wet period, you can enjoy many clear hours in the first half of the day.

The temperature in Venecia is characterized by enviable consistency: average daily figures throughout the year fluctuate within a narrow range from +24.5°C to +27.5°C. The hottest months are traditionally March and April, when the air warms up to its annual maximum, creating excellent conditions for lovers of true tropical heat.

Nights in this region bring pleasant relief, as the thermometer usually drops to +18°C — +20°C. This contrast between day and night (averaging about 10 degrees) allows for a comfortable break from the daytime heat, enjoying the natural coolness of Costa Rica even without the use of air conditioning.

The winter period, falling in January and February, is considered the "coolest," although by northern standards, it is a full-fledged summer with temperatures around +21°C. During this time, humidity is at its minimum, and a moderate breeze makes being outdoors exceptionally pleasant for long walks in the surrounding areas.

Precipitation in Venecia is unevenly distributed, forming two distinct climatic periods. From December to March, the nature of Costa Rica literally takes a break from the rains—showers are extremely rare during this time, and rainfall in March drops to a minimum of 47.6 mm, creating ideal conditions for beach holidays and hiking.

The peak of the wet season occurs in October and November, when monthly rainfall can exceed 380 mm. During this period, rains usually start in the afternoon and take the form of intense but brief tropical showers. Mornings generally remain sunny, so experienced travelers try to plan all activities for the first half of the day.

Interestingly, in June and July, there is a nearly daily probability of rain (up to 29 rainy days per month), but it is rarely prolonged. Thanks to this pattern, the city's surroundings are always bathed in emerald greenery, and the air remains clean and filled with the scents of the tropical forest, giving the region a special charm.

When packing for Venecia, opt for clothing made of natural, breathable fabrics such as cotton and linen. Since the sun is very strong in Costa Rica, be sure to bring a high-quality sunscreen with high SPF, a wide-brimmed hat, and sunglasses, especially if your trip falls between December and May.

For the wet season starting in May, a compact raincoat or a light waterproof jacket is an essential accessory. Footwear should be as comfortable as possible and, preferably, quick-drying. Despite the daytime heat, it is worth bringing a light sweater or long-sleeved shirt for evening walks, as nighttime temperatures can feel contrastingly cool compared to the midday heat.

Don't forget your swimwear: the water temperature in the nearby ocean remains consistently high (up to +30°C) year-round. If your plans include excursions to the higher mountain areas of Alajuela province, be sure to pack a windbreaker and closed-toe sneakers—temperatures there can be 5–10 degrees lower than on the coast.
