General Weather Overview

The climate in the town of Bol can be described as classic Mediterranean, making this place attractive to tourists for most of the year. Mild, wet winters and hot, sunny summers are typical for this region of Croatia. The proximity of the sea smooths out temperature fluctuations, so it is rarely extremely cold or unbearably stuffy here.

The summer months are undoubtedly the peak of the tourist season. From June to August, stable clear weather sets in with minimal rainfall: rain is a rarity in July and August. The average temperature during this time ranges from 22°C to 25°C, and in the daytime, the air often warms up to 27°C, creating ideal conditions for a beach holiday.

Autumn and spring bring pleasant freshness, maintaining comfortable temperatures around 13–20°C, which is excellent for active tourism and long walks. However, travellers planning a trip in the low season should consider that late autumn and winter (especially November, December, and January) are the rainiest periods of the year.

Temperature

The temperature regime in Bol is characterised by the mildness of the Mediterranean climate, making a stay here comfortable almost all year round. The coldest month is January with an average temperature of about 7.5°C, while even night-time minimums rarely drop below 5°C. In contrast to winter, the hottest period is August, when average figures reach 24.8°C, and the air warms up to 27.5°C and above during the day.

Summer in this corner of Croatia can be described as pleasantly warm and sunny. During the peak season, falling in July and August, daytime temperatures hold steadily in the range of 26–27°C. A significant advantage is that the nights remain very warm: the minimum temperature in these months is around 22°C, allowing you to enjoy long evening walks by the sea without the need to wear warm clothes. Precipitation is extremely scarce at this time, guaranteeing dry and clear weather.

Winter here is mild and devoid of the severe frosts typical of continental Europe. Daytime temperatures from December to February usually hover around 10–11°C, creating a fresh but not freezing atmosphere. Spring arrives quite quickly: already in April, the air warms up to 15°C, and by May, a comfortable temperature of about 19.5°C sets in, heralding the start of the new tourist season.

Precipitation

Precipitation in Bol is distributed unevenly throughout the year, which is characteristic of the mild climate of the Croatian coast. There is a clear difference between the dry summer season and the wetter winter period. Since air temperatures rarely drop to freezing points even in the coldest months, precipitation falls mainly as rain, and snow is an extremely rare phenomenon.

Summer is the most favourable time for those who prefer clear weather. The driest months are July and August, when rainfall is minimal, and the number of rainy days averages just 3 per month. In June, rains are also rare (about 6 days), which makes the summer season ideal for beach holidays and walks.

With the arrival of autumn and winter, humidity rises. The rainiest period is the end of the year: November leads in the volume of rainfall, and December in the frequency of inclement days (up to 15 days per month). January is also distinguished by frequent rains (about 12 days), so when planning a trip in the low season, it is worth taking care of waterproof clothing and an umbrella.

What to Pack

When packing for a summer trip to Bol, rely on light clothing made from natural breathable fabrics such as cotton or linen. July and August are the hottest and driest months here, so swimwear, shorts, T-shirts, and open-toed shoes will form the basis of your wardrobe. Do not forget reliable sun protection: high SPF cream, quality sunglasses, and a hat are mandatory, as the sun on the Adriatic is very active.

If your trip is planned for spring or autumn, the weather can be changeable, so it is better to use the layering principle. It may be warm enough for a T-shirt during the day, but evenings bring coolness requiring a light jumper or jacket. For the winter months and late autumn (especially November and December), when the number of rainy days increases noticeably, be sure to take a waterproof windbreaker, an umbrella, and closed shoes to feel comfortable at temperatures around +8...+10°C.

Regardless of the time of year, put comfortable walking shoes in your suitcase: they will come in handy for walks on rocky beaches and exploring the picturesque surroundings. It is also worth considering that Bol is known for its winds, which attract windsurfers, so a light windproof jacket will be a useful accessory even in the warm months, especially for evening strolls along the sea.
