Overview

The climate in Port Said can be described as warm and arid, yet significantly tempered by its proximity to the Mediterranean Sea. Unlike the sweltering desert regions of Egypt, the weather here is more comfortable and stable. The city welcomes travelers with plenty of sunshine and a refreshing sea breeze, making it pleasant to plan trips and walks at almost any time of year.

The year is roughly divided into a long, hot summer and a very mild winter. The summer season, lasting from May to October, offers high temperatures: during the warmest months of July and August, daytime air temperatures reach 31°C. Winter here is reminiscent of a pleasant European spring: even in January and February, daytime temperatures hover at a comfortable 18°C, while nights bring only a slight chill, rarely dropping below 12°C.

A hallmark of the weather in Port Said is its exceptional dryness. Precipitation is extremely low, and even in the winter, "wet" days are rare—no more than 3-5 times a month. From late spring to late autumn, it practically never rains, so tourists can count on guaranteed clear skies and dry, sunny weather.

Temperature

The climate in Port Said is mild, typical of the Mediterranean coast, without extreme temperature swings. The annual cycle is quite smooth: the hottest months are traditionally July and August, when the average temperature stays around 28°C, and daytime maximums reach 31.4°C. The coolest period occurs at the beginning of the year—in January and February, average figures drop to 15.2°C, which still remains quite comfortable for travelers not used to harsh winters.

The summer season here is hot but generally easier to handle than in inland Egypt, thanks to the proximity of the sea. Even at night in the height of summer, the air remains very warm: minimum nighttime temperatures in July, August, and September range from 24-25°C. Winter is experienced as a pleasant coolness. During the day in winter months, the air warms up to 18-20°C, and nighttime minimums rarely drop below 12°C, so heavy jackets are unlikely to be needed; a light sweater or windbreaker is sufficient.

The city's temperature regime is stable and predictable. The difference between daytime and nighttime readings in the summer is about 6-7 degrees, which brings slight relief after the midday heat while keeping the atmosphere warm. In winter, the daily range stays at about the same level—around 6 degrees. This steady climate allows tourists to comfortably plan their leisure activities both during the day and in the evenings without fear of a sudden drop in temperature after sunset.

Precipitation

The climate in Port Said is exceptionally dry, making precipitation a fairly rare occurrence. Clear weather prevails throughout the year, and even during the "wettest" months, the amount of rainfall remains minimal. Since temperatures here never drop below freezing, there is no snow in the city—precipitation occurs exclusively in the form of rain.

The highest chance of rain is during the winter period. The wettest months are January and February, with about 5 rainy days per month recorded. December also falls within the period of increased humidity, with 4 rainy days. However, even then, the volume of precipitation is extremely low (about 1 mm), so rains are typically brief drizzles that end quickly.

The summer season, as well as late spring and early autumn, are characterized by a complete absence of precipitation. From May to September, the probability of rain is practically zero. This time of year guarantees tourists dry and sunny weather, which is perfect for a beach holiday if you are prepared for the high temperatures.

Packing Tips

When packing for Port Said, it is important to consider its seaside location and mild Mediterranean climate. For a trip during the summer season, when daytime temperatures reach 30°C or higher, opt for lightweight clothing made from natural, breathable fabrics like cotton or linen. The sun is very strong here, so be sure to pack a hat, high-quality sunglasses, and a high-SPF sunscreen. Comfortable open shoes or light sneakers are ideal for long walks along the waterfront and sightseeing.

In winter and the shoulder seasons, the weather turns cooler: average temperatures drop to 15–17°C, and nights can be brisk (around 12°C). During this time of year, layering is the best approach. Bring jeans, long-sleeved T-shirts, and a warm sweater or hoodie. Since the city is exposed to sea breezes, a windbreaker or light jacket will be essential, especially for evening strolls by the water.

Precipitation in Port Said is extremely rare and occurs mostly in the winter months, so you likely won't need a heavy raincoat, but a small folding umbrella might come in handy in January or February. Given the dry climate during the warmer periods, don't forget to pack skin moisturizers. Also, despite the resort atmosphere, it is recommended to choose clothing that covers your shoulders and knees for city walks, out of respect for local traditions.
