ZOOM Erlebniswelt is one of the most modern and impressive zoos not only in Germany but in all of Europe, located in the city of Gelsenkirchen. Founded in 1949 as the "Ruhr-Zoo," it has been completely transformed and today offers visitors a unique "world of adventure" concept. Instead of traditional enclosures, it features large-scale themed zones that recreate the natural landscapes of different continents with incredible accuracy, allowing guests to take a true journey around the world.
The zoo's territory of over 30 hectares is divided into three main "worlds": Africa, Alaska, and Asia. Each zone is a detailed ecosystem with characteristic plants, sounds, and, of course, animals. For example, in "Africa," you can take a boat trip across a lake to watch hippos and flamingos, and then find yourself in the savannah among giraffes and zebras. "Alaska" greets guests with rocky landscapes, a waterfall, a huge enclosure for polar bears, and a glass tunnel for observing sea lions. In "Asia," you can walk through a tropical forest and see orangutans.

A distinctive feature of ZOOM Erlebniswelt is its focus on creating the most natural habitats possible for large animals such as bears, lions, rhinos, and monkeys. Fences here are almost invisible, creating an effect of total immersion in the wild. Thanks to this approach, the zoo has become more than just a place to display animals; it is a true center for studying and preserving species, where you can observe their behavior in conditions that are as close as possible to reality.
