Indira Gandhi Zoological Park is more than just a place for a stroll; it is one of the largest wildlife sanctuaries in India. Spanning an area of 253 hectares, it proudly holds the title of the third-largest zoo in the country. This unique space is located in picturesque Visakhapatnam, nestled in a valley amidst the hills of the Eastern Ghats, which surround it on three sides, while the fourth side opens up to the azure waters of the Bay of Bengal.

The park opened to visitors in May 1977 and was named in honor of the country's prominent Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi. Its location within the Kambalakonda forest reserve allows animals to live in conditions that closely mimic their natural habitat, making a visit here a truly immersive experience into the world of wildlife.
Today, it is home to about 80 animal species, with the total number of inhabitants reaching 800. Combining the functions of a scientific center and a popular tourist destination, the zoo offers guests a rare opportunity to witness the rich fauna of the Eastern Ghats landscape in its pristine beauty.
