Gappo Park (合浦公園, Gappo Park) is one of the gems of Aomori city, nestled in its northern part right on the scenic shore of the bay. The uniqueness of this place lies in the fact that Gappo is one of the few urban parks in Japan with access to the ocean. Thanks to its exceptional beauty and significance, Gappo Park is deservedly included in the prestigious list of the 100 Best Urban Parks in Japan.

The park is famous for its rich and diverse vegetation. Here you can see many majestic pines, creating a special atmosphere of serenity. In spring, the park is transformed when about 670 cherry trees of the popular Somei Yoshino variety bloom, enveloping everything in a soft pink cloud. This sight attracts many visitors who wish to enjoy the traditional Japanese flower viewing – hanami.
In addition to its natural beauty, Gappo Park is home to 31 historical markers and monuments. Among them, a special place is held by the famous 460-year-old "Sanho no Matsu" pine, which has a whimsical umbrella shape and serves as the park's symbol. There are also monuments to famous Japanese poets, such as Matsuo Basho and Ishikawa Takuboku, adding cultural and historical value to the park and making it not just a place for relaxation but also for touching the country's history and culture.
