The cathedral is rightfully considered a marvel of engineering for its time. Its main feature is that it is among the tallest wooden buildings in the world. Built according to the project of architect A.P. Zenkov in the early 20th century, the church was erected using unique technologies of that time, virtually without the use of nails. Its total height reaches 54 meters, making it a truly impressive structure.
The architectural style of the cathedral is a five-domed, three-aisle church with an attached bell tower, executed in the traditions of Russian ecclesiastical architecture with Art Nouveau elements. The bright colors of the facades and elegant domes create an unforgettable image. The interior, with its murals and iconostasis, is strikingly beautiful and creates an atmosphere of peace. The cathedral's capacity is approximately 1,800 people.
A visit to the Ascension Cathedral is not just about seeing a landmark, but an opportunity to touch the history and spiritual culture of Almaty. It is a place where faith, art, and unique engineering solutions combine harmoniously, leaving a deep impression on every guest.
